Inkling Habitat interactive e-book publishing platform rolls out to select publishers

Inkling Habitat interactive e-book publishing platform rolls out to select publishers | Publishing - ThatWay.eu | Scoop.it

It's not another alternative for individual authors looking to self-publish (at least for now), but professional publishers looking to create and distribute interactive e-books now have a new option to consider in the form of Inkling Habitat. Initially available to select publishers in an early adopter program (a broader rollout is planned for later this year), the platform promises to make producing interactive e-books at scale more affordable, with the program itself completely free provided publishers agree to sell their books through Inkling's store. As mocoNews notes, however, Inkling isn't asking publishers for exclusive rights, so they'll also be able to sell them elsewhere if they choose -- the iPad is the initial target platform, with HTML5-based web publishing also planned. The system is also cloud-based, meaning that a group of folks in various locations will be able to collaborate on a single book, something that Inkling hopes will distinguish it further from Apple's own iBooks Author; its CEO even went as far as to use the analogy of Habitat being the Final Cut Pro to iBooks Author's iMovie.

iBooks 2 and iBooks Author: Another opportunity & headache | The Vook Blog

iBooks 2 and iBooks Author: Another opportunity & headache | The Vook Blog | Publishing - ThatWay.eu | Scoop.it

People wax nostalgic about the smell of books, but no one pines for the smell of textbooks. They smelled like glue, they were heavy, and they were—usually—boring. So we were happy to read Apple’s announcement of iBooks 2 and iBooks Author: finally, a kind of book everyone wants to see go digital fast.

But iBooks Author outputs an entirely new file format called “.ibooks.” This is a proprietary file format that only plays in iBooks.

Future Publishing introduces a new iPad-only magazine

Future Publishing introduces a new iPad-only magazine | Publishing - ThatWay.eu | Scoop.it
“Wherever one door closes,” as the saying goes, “another door is almost sure to open.”

That was the first cliche that popped into my head, at any rate, when I read an announcement earlier today about Photography Week, currently scheduled to be the next iPad-only magazine available in the Apple Newsstand.

Photography Week is being produced by the U.K.-based Future Publishing, which recently took home the Association of Online Publishers’ Launch of the Year Award for having achieved stunning levels of success with its numerous tablet-specific titles. (According to Future’s website, over 38 million unique visitors view its various publications each month. The company produces 100 different tablet-only publications and apps.)

5 Reasons Why Nobody Reads Your Blog | Social Media Today

5 Reasons Why Nobody Reads Your Blog | Social Media Today | Publishing - ThatWay.eu | Scoop.it

Your recent blog statistics showed that the number of readers is dwindling. Those who visited do not stay long. Why doesn’t anyone read your blog, you ask?

Especially after you spent so much time and effort, not to mention funds on building a website. Well, chances are it’s the same reason why students fall asleep during lectures. Or someone trying to avoid long queues (did you know that in some parts of the world, people get paid to queue for others?). I think you got the message!

Yes, your blog is probably B-O-R-I-N-G to others. No offense but not everyone is interested in what you had for lunch today. Or to read a 2,000 words posting on quantum physics. But having a boring blog is only one of the few reasons why some blogs have no readers. There are many other reasons.

But don’t worry, it’s not the end of the world. This article lists 5 main reasons why no one reads your blog except perhaps your family and your best friend. It also gives a couple of tips to overcome them.

Gutenberg the Geek: A Kindle Single

Gutenberg the Geek: A Kindle Single | Publishing - ThatWay.eu | Scoop.it

The latest book of Jeff Jarvis:

"I’ve just published Gutenberg the Geek, arguing that the inventor of printing was our first geek, the original technology entrepreneur. I find wonderful parallels in the challenges and opportunities he faced and those that face Silicon Valley (or entrepreneurial journalism) startups today. So I retell his story from an entrepreneurial perspective, examining how he overcame technology hurdles, how he operated with the secrecy of a Steve Jobs but then shifted to openness, how he raised capital and mitigated risk, and how, in the end, his cash flow and equity structure did him in. This is also the inspiring story of a great disruptor. That is why I say Gutenberg is the patron saint of entrepreneurs. The Kindle Single came out of my obsession with Gutenberg that developed while I researched Public Parts. I also wanted to learn how Kindle Singles work (more on that later) -… and prove that I have nothing against charging for content! But I’m not charging much, only 99 cents (free in the Amazon lending library)."

Lecture sociale : de nouvelles obligations pour l’auteur ?

Lecture sociale : de nouvelles obligations pour l’auteur ? | Publishing - ThatWay.eu | Scoop.it

Online advertising is booming. Already a $32 billion business, advertisers are expected to spend a full $62 billion online in 2016, when spending in online advertising will match print spending for the first time. But news publishers are not poised to cash in on the growth, a report released Monday by the Pew Research Center suggests.
