Pierre Ducharme's insight:
While there is little doubt that E-Buses make a lot of sense in most transit systems, time is required to adjusts both facilities and practices to this new propulsion system. Sales will increase quickly but given the 12-18 life of current buses, we have a long road ahead of us.

Trucks headed for a driverless future

Trucks headed for a driverless future | Public Transit & Heavy Vehicles | Scoop.it
Unions warn that millions of drivers’ jobs will be disrupted
Pierre Ducharme's insight:
My daily Google Search for articles related to driverless trucks returned 3 more articles today on the topic of Driverless Vehicles displacing jobs: a driveless van delivering groceries in the UK, an super heavy automated truck moving oil sands for Suncor and Ford filing for automated police cars.

Many of us have been warning the governement about the disruptive nature of driverless vehicles, predicting this phenomenon and urging the governement to help society to prepare for it to no avail.  Basically, if it won’t happen within 4-5 years, it’s not important.

The changes will not occur overnight, but it will occur.  Drivers, cops and even hospital workers will be displaced as AVs take to the roads.  Shouldn’t we prepare?

I posted several comments on this topic in the past.  Myopia is palpant in the US when it comes to technology and new trends. In the 1980’s, it led to the Japanese Car Industry taking a huge share of the North American market. We would be well advised to remember that.
