there's a difference between male and female arsonists. males tend to set fires on commercial property and it has a more instrumental focus. female arsonists tend to set fires for emotional reasons and do it in residential places. arsonists don't have any real violent offences they only have property related crimes.

this document talks about how arsonists are control freaks. how they like knowing that they are in control of the firetrucks that show up to put out the fires.and others just get a physical thrill from the fires. more than 50 percent of the arsonists end up returning to the scene.97 percent of them return within the 24 hours of the fire.

In this magazine they talk about the different types of arsonists. there are about eight different types. the first they talk about is pyromaniacs and its the least common type. Another type of arsonist likes to set fires for revenge. the other type sets fires for profit and there are juvenile. some juveniles start under the age of 15.

everything can start just by the curiosity of fire. best prevention's are to stop them at an early age. they try to encourage families to teach their kids to not play with matches.they also increase child awareness at schools.in New York they have decreased 74 percent of the repeated fires with a program called "fireproof children"

Though the most common reason for arson is profit, people who set wildfires may be motivated by anger.
Johnny Monroy's insight:

most of the profiled arsonists have a lower IQ than 90. which could qualify them as mentally retarded. not every child with mental issues will grow up and end up being an arsonist. at the same time there are many that have IQ's and still become what is considered an arsonist. the primary motivation is still anger.

this website has many different statistics about arsonists. it shows that most of the juvenile arsonists younger than 15 73 percent of these people are caucasian. 70 percent of the arsonist fires are about 3.5km away from there homes.
