Protest The Hero: Volition

Protest The Hero: Volition | Protest The Hero, Independent album release | Scoop.it
It's been a long time coming for Protest the Hero. I mean, in reality we're not looking at a band that hasn't released anything in a substantial amount of years, but following a departure from Vagrant Records and a more-than-successful Indiegogo campaign to support a new LP – you have to hand it to them. But tales of determination and perseverance aside, Volition marks the fourth LP from the Canadian metal outfit and in its wake are questions and answers of just where the band's ever-changing sound would take them this time around. Volition is, simply put, somewhere between the rhythmic underbelly of Periphery and Protest the Hero's somewhat polarizing third LP Scurrilous. Not to say the boys have gone djent, but there's a sense of groove on this record that reminds me a bit of what a band like Periphery does on a regular basis - or even partially of PTH in their younger days when spastic meter changes a la "Heretics and Killers" ran amuck. Andres Felipe Camelo's insight:

I don't agree with the authors opinion just because I am huge fan of protest the hero but he does point out some flaws in the album but their minor, I still consider the album to be their best by far.

REVIEW: Protest The Hero – ‘Volition’ | Under the Gun Review

REVIEW: Protest The Hero – ‘Volition’ | Under the Gun Review | Protest The Hero, Independent album release | Scoop.it
Artist: Protest The Hero
Album: Volition
Genre: Progressive Metal
Label: Razor & Tie

From the moment the then still teenage Protest the Hero announced themselves to the world with their phenomenal debut record Kezia in 2006, the Whitby, Ontario quintet have been considered somewhat of a divisive force in the heavy music scene. Almost universally revered for their technical proficiency, but often misunderstood by casual listeners due to it, Protest the Hero have amassed an equal amount of fans as they have detractors for the spasmodic, genre-hopping nature of their compositions. Thankfully for the band, the fan base that they have acquired is a loyal, dedicated, and above all, passionate one. As a result of this, the band was able to finance their latest release, Volition, via the popular crowd funding service Indiegogo, and after repeated listens I can tell you that those fans are about to see their investment in Protest the Hero pay off big time.

Volition, the band's fourth
Andres Felipe Camelo's insight:

I agree with the article in the fact that the volition album release is a huge achievement from the band considering how they started.

Andres Felipe Camelo's insight:

I agree with the author in that the band did do an amazing job on this record because they took the time to master their instruments and make mind blowing melodies since they din't have a label breathing down their necks since the album was successfully crowd funded. I feel this author is credible because he goes into the specifics of each instrument so he must know what he is talking about.
