Digital literacy can boost employability and improve student experience | Project 2: Digital literacy |

Although IT ability is required in an increasing number of jobs (in the UK), students are not gaining sufficient digital literacy skills in university. One problem is that there is no current definition of digital literacy and what is required. Another problem is the lack of training in digital tools, for both teachers and students. A third problem is that students are happy to be consumers, rather than creators or curators of information. Solutions to these problems include better training, a clear definition of what “digital literacy” is and why it’s necessary, and getting students involved in creating a new curriculum that includes digital literacy as a key objective.
