The Father Of "Getting Things Done": You're Getting Me All Wrong

The Father Of "Getting Things Done": You're Getting Me All Wrong | Productivity | Scoop.it
Productivity guru David Allen on Zen, doing nothing, and why some people need to stop focusing on their goals and actually get shit done.
Mascha van de Weer's insight:
"A big addiction is to keeping stuff in your head," says Allen. "I think it gives people a false sense of control: ‘I will feel more out of control if I look at how out of control I am.’""People get mad at me for their list and I am going, 'I’m sorry. ‘That ain't my list, sweetie. You are the one who made those commitments.’"

How to Stick With Good Habits Every Day by Using the "Paper Clip Strategy" | James Clear

How to Stick With Good Habits Every Day by Using the "Paper Clip Strategy" | James Clear | Productivity | Scoop.it
Mascha van de Weer's insight:

Great idea!
Instead of tossing physical paperclips, I think this would also work digitally by making a list of every day recurring tasks (the new habit actions) that you can check off each day.
You can put that task list on one of the screens on you phone to have it close to you, or even on your 'home screen' if you want to be reminded constantly about them.

Get Out of Your Inbox to Get More Done

Get Out of Your Inbox to Get More Done | Productivity | Scoop.it
How much time will you spend in your email inbox today? Answer: Probably too much. If you spend all of your day “doing” email, when are you going to have time to get to your most important tasks? S...
Mascha van de Weer's insight:

For those who are not aware of this habit, just try tracking your time for a few weeks and be really honest to yourself about checking e-mail. You'll see it yourself.
You can set timers for the moments you 'are allowed' to check your mail. Or do it, like me, around your breaks: half way the morning, around lunch and halfway the afternoon. This way,  you also avoid another 'productivity trap' by starting the day in your mailbox instead of your calendar and task list.

Mascha van de Weer's insight:

Nice article that shows how important it is try to collect everything and to really try to think about what's the next action.
I noticed that it was so much easier to work on projects for which I determined the right next actions than on projects that I hadn't thought through well enough.
Not only there were less FTA's (great word btw!), but it was  also much easier to actually DO the actions.

Forget Multitasking. Real Productivity Comes From Singletasking.

Forget Multitasking. Real Productivity Comes From Singletasking. | Productivity | Scoop.it
With so much to distract us, getting one thing done at a time is the key to success.
Mascha van de Weer's insight:

People finally seem to understand that multi-tasking is a myth.

I never ever believed in it. I'm a woman and SO many times I was asked if I couldn't do two tasks at the same time... At first I just told them that I couldn't, and later after I read the first research reports indicating that multi-tasking is a myth, I could tell them with even more conviction.

Now that we know that it's even lowering your IQ, I think it's time to really start promoting habits for single-tasking like this article does.

Let's break it down and see how you can apply a simplified version to your life.
Mascha van de Weer's insight:

A nice comprehensive article about GTD and a little about other productivity methods with links to tools and others parts of the method.

Mascha van de Weer's insight:

Some nice tips about a productive workplace. Made me think about addding a nice family picture and moving my plant closer to my desk or buying a new (smaller) one.

I'd also like to add a tip about the sent items:
Process them the same way you do with you inbox items. You might even make a 'rule' in your mail programm to make sure they appear in you inbox for processing after you sent an e-mail.
