The Center for Process Studies: A Synopsis of Process Thought

The Center for Process Studies: A Synopsis of Process Thought | PROCESS PHILOSOPHY ( Alfred North Whitehead ) | Scoop.it

Process thought offers a vision of hope. As a relational rather than mechanistic cosmology, process thought addresses questions of social, political, economic, and ecological justice. Process thinkers work toward changing harmful and restrictive social structures to reflect the interrelational reality. Process thought advocates personal, global, and environmental responsibility; community-based economics; participatory, grassroots democracy; an end to patriarchal structures; respect for gender, ethnic, cultural, and racial diversity; non-violence; and ecological and economic sustainability.

Profile | Considering God's Existence? (Nancey Murphy) | Closer to Truth | PROCESS PHILOSOPHY ( Alfred North Whitehead ) | Scoop.it

Most people believe that God exists and religion is Gods revelation. But some claim that religion needs nothing supernatural; that religion, without God, can flourish because personal psychology and group sociology drive religion.

PANENTHEISM VS. PANTHEISM

PANENTHEISM VS. PANTHEISM | PROCESS PHILOSOPHY ( Alfred North Whitehead ) | Scoop.it

Pantheism and Panentheism

The universal arrangement is not pantheism (all is God), but panentheism, a term devised by Karl C. F. Krause (1781-1832) to describe his thought. It is best known for its use by Charles Hartshorne and recently by Matthew Fox. Panentheism says that all is in God, somewhat as if God were the ocean and we were fish. If one considers what is in God's body to be part of God, then we can say that God is all there is and then some. The universe is God's body, but God's awareness or personality is greater than the sum of all the parts of the universe. All the parts have some degree of freedom in co-creating with God. At the start of its momentary career as a subject, an experience is God--as the divine initial aim. As the experience carries on its choosing process, it is a freely aiming reality that is not strictly God, since it departs from God's purpose to some degree. Yet everything is within Go

U.S. culture's clash between religion and science is almost exclusively driven by Christian instincts and arguments. Hindu physicist V.V. Raman offers another view of religion, the universe, and the complementarity of the questions of science and faith.

Sadness and Beauty

Sadness and Beauty | PROCESS PHILOSOPHY ( Alfred North Whitehead ) | Scoop.it

In Whitehead's philosophy, every moment of our lives is a cherry blossom. We are living and dying IN every moment. The cherry blossoms of our own past experiences, beautiful and poignant, are now past, never to be retrieved in their subjective immediacy. Most of us can live with this fact. We do not expect our own pasts to be

The Center for Process Studies: What is Process Thought?

The Center for Process Studies: What is Process Thought? | PROCESS PHILOSOPHY ( Alfred North Whitehead ) | Scoop.it

With a foundation in the metaphysical system of Alfred North Whitehead (among others), and a methodology that integrates both speculation and empirical verification, process thought brings its unique metaphysical perspective to bear on many fields of reflection and action.

Ultimately, process thought seeks to integrate and reconcile the diverse facets of human experience (i.e. ethical, religious, aesthetic, and scientific intuitions) into one coherent explanatory scheme. The most common applications of process thought are in the fields of philosophy and theology. However, process has also found a meaningful foothold in many other discussions, including ecology, economics, physics, biology, education, psychology, feminism, and cultural studies.
