Do American public schools really stink? Maybe not

Do American public schools really stink? Maybe not | Principal Matters! | Scoop.it
The drumbeat is hard to miss: Our schools are failing. Public education is in crisis. Our students are falling further and further behind.
Mark Wilson's insight:

When something is said often enough and loud enough, reasonable people begin to believe it... even if it's not true. (See, "Great Wall of China Seen From Space" and "Epidemic of Candy Tampering at Halloween", both hoaxes that many reasonable people have bought into)

The narrative that all American schools are failing has been created and exploited by those with ulterior motives.  It's unfortunately been said enough that reasonable people have been caught up in the falsehood. The truth is that most schools and most teachers are doing good work:  a recent PDK/Gallup Poll shows that over three-fourths of all parents believe so. (giving their child's school a grade of A or B)

Cheers to each and every article that shares a more accurate picture of education in America.

Thanks, teachers, administrators, and those who work hard to help all of our nation's children be successful in school.

Time to Stop Waiting for Superman

Time to Stop Waiting for Superman | Principal Matters! | Scoop.it
There was no DC miracle. Browbeating students and teachers into raising scores on state tests only makes them better at taking state tests, and reforming our schools in hopes of replicating an illusion is a petty crime against humanity.

Mark Wilson's insight:

While not a part of the Common Core, the actions of the Texas legislature have always have a resonance among our other states and commonwealths.  It will be interesting to see what impact this may have.
