Tony Palmeri's curator insight, October 25, 2015 10:32 AM

I scooped this article because I just this week led students on a conversation about digital citizenship (in my 1st hour advisory period). Educating students on digital citizenship is important and must be intentionally addressed. I like the resources posted here that support and help to describe the pitfalls of social media. Also, technology has evolved and is so available that young children are seemingly able to use it effortlessly. However, their grasp of language and understanding how their words are interpreted is often more deficient than the ability to use and navigate the internet. So, monitoring and attending to these issues is a must for teachers and parents alike.

There seems to be lots of room for libraries and librarians to interject their skill sets with these 7 shifts, especially in the areas of digital literacy, research literacy, physical-to-digital, connectivism... My biggest takeaway, though, is the idea that none of these ideas require a huge influx of funding - they can all be done tomorrow with concerted effort in the education community.

I'm trying these 3 ios tools from qrayon.com out. AirSketch - lets you show what is on your ipad on your computer/projector. Good for math class. Inkflow lets you write and insert images and resize, etc and publish to the web or email. Vittles will let you record your voice while writing and displaying/annotating images so it makes a little video that could be shared online as well. Good idea for flipping. These are the free versions I'm trying out. I'm sure the paid would give more options.
