Translation:

I have come for my food!. What, you mean to tell me the nice old lady that always feeds me has passed on? Why? She was always so nice to me when she was still alive... She always fed me, stroked me, told me tales of her past that i didn't understand, but I could still feel the meaning that was behind those words. Ah, those were good times, good times... But, who will feed me now? Who will take care of me? And you mean to tell me that I have inherited $13 million? I am eternally grateful to you kind lady! With this much money, I can buy more than a lifetime's supply of fish! Curse that nurse whom is to be my "caretaker". If she wasn't around, that money would be mine. I WILL HAVE THAT MONEY ONE WAY OR ANOTHER! IT'S MINE, ALL MINE!

Richest 100 'could end poverty now' - Morning Star

Richest 100 'could end poverty now' - Morning Star | Poverty Assignment by (Ng Yao Zhu) | Scoop.it

Oxfam said today that the world's 100 richest people could easily afford to end the hunger, thirst and basic illness of every person of Earth.

Ng Yao Zhu's insight:

I find it really ironic that the richest people in the world can actually put a stop to poverty, improving the lives of many, many people but they choose not to due to their greed. Even with just a quarter of their total wealth, they could provide the basic necessities for living for all those in poverty, such as providing water and food. Also, its really weird that their income had increased by even more since the 2008 financial crash.

Rich helping those people in poverty. They could have did it eariler to help much more people then doing it at a later stage.

Brandon Liu's curator insight, February 4, 2013 7:36 AM

they should have did it earlier so that the poor will not be suffering right now

Vion Lee's curator insight, February 4, 2013 7:42 AM

Reading this article, i realised that the gap between the very rich and the very poor is slowly increasing, so much so that only with the help of the top 100 richest people on earth, poverty can be easily settled worldwide. If these people would donate out a portion of their money to an area in need, I am very sure the situation in that area would improve tremendously and they would'nt really even miss their money.

Annual Poverty Roundtable meeting Thursday - Winona Daily News

Annual Poverty Roundtable meeting Thursday - Winona Daily News | Poverty Assignment by (Ng Yao Zhu) | Scoop.it
Annual Poverty Roundtable meeting Thursday Winona Daily News The Winona Area Poverty Roundtable is a group of people from nonprofit organizations, churches and the faith community, local governmental organizations, and individuals who do not accept...
Ng Yao Zhu's insight:

I feel that what these people are doing is really helpful for the people in poverty. By setting up a free clinic, those same people would not need to worry about expenses as some checkups are really expensive. These people in poverty could get better by going to the free clinic if they have any illnesses. For a non-profit organisation to be able to this, it really is great for them to be considerate of the poorer people around us.

The Unaddressed Link Between Poverty and Education

The Unaddressed Link Between Poverty and Education | Poverty Assignment by (Ng Yao Zhu) | Scoop.it
Federal education policy seems blind to the relationship between poverty and student performance.

Via Jim Lerman
Ng Yao Zhu's insight:

This article is a really detailed article describing the relationship between poverty and education. It tells us that a child's education is dependent on his or her financial income. With more money, the more care the child can get, and therefore do better in school. It also tells us the major flaw in George W. Bush's education law, "No Child Left Behind", which is by setting expectations beyond capability for all schools, eventually, the system failled due to its own goal.

See-think-wonder

From the picture show above, I could clearly see that a woman is raseing a banner which writes"POVERTY HAS A WOMAN'S FACE" I could see from her expression on her face that she is not happy.

From the picture above, i think that she is probally on a stirke demanding on the issuse on poverty in her country. I think that she is voiceing out her words by writing on the banner above.

I wonder how many people actually suffer from poverty in the country, and also did the goverment help them to break free form poverty.I also wonder what are the goverment is going to do in order to help them.

Scientist sees end to poverty in 50 years - Times of India

Scientist sees end to poverty in 50 years - Times of India | Poverty Assignment by (Ng Yao Zhu) | Scoop.it
Scientist sees end to poverty in 50 years
Times of India
KOLKATA: Poverty can be eradicated in just 50 years, feels inventor and philanthropist Dr Mani Lal Bhaumik, one of the rare scientists to bridge science and spirituality.
Ng Yao Zhu's insight:

This article is really interesting as it predicts that the end to poverty in India and probably asia, could come in 50 years. Due to the way India is now, with it becoming more and more technologically advanced, it could become free of poverty during that time period. However, there could be unforseen events that might hinder its progress to end poverty. Events such as natural disasters, which damage the environment and human settlements, could really set back its progress.

Homeless Outreach Poverty Eradication members host free dinner for the ...
Ng Yao Zhu's insight:

I feel that its really wonderful for the Homeless Outreach eradication members to host free dinners for the homeless every month as they are barely able to afford food for themselves. Not all of us would be able to step up to help serve the homeless since we are all so busy in our daily lives. For example, students would be too busy studying or doing their homework to be able to spend time helping these people. The average working adult would probabaly be too busy working to do this.
