Jerone Taduran's insight:

From what ive read in the article and the comments, I can see that these two countries have a long term conflict with each other for over 100 years. It resulted in many deaths and injuries, it . I think that Sri Lanka should not have implemented the 'Sinhala Only' Official Language Act as it makes the lives of Tamils worse, and not only that, without this implementation, the conflict would not have started. I wonder what the Sinhalese and Tamils could do to have a peaceful ethnic interaction instead of conflicts.

Jaslyn Si Jia's curator insight, July 3, 2013 6:45 AM

After reading this article, i learnt that there is a conflict between the Tamils and Sinhalese, which took place in Sri Lanka and lasted for over more than 100 years. As the Sinhalese have many benefits like, more job offers and further education opportunities, which the Tamils are unhappy about, thus conflicts between the two ethnic groups started.

I feel that the two ethnic groups shouldn't use violence to solve their problems. Its not worth it to get people injured or killed just to have that problem evened out. Both should talk to each other what their are unhappy about and give in to each other.

I wonder why they want to pursue the matter for such a long time.

Ameer Artsyrup's curator insight, July 5, 2013 8:59 AM

After reading this article, I believe that in order for a country to achieve progress, social, economical and political stability, it has to first achieve muti-ethnic harmony. this is true as different races in a country need to work in cohesion in order to benefit both the country and themselves. This can be seen as Singapore has gone through much progress since the racial riots end. However if racial instability has struck a multi-ethnic country, this will create a lot of problems for the country like major riots and civil wars. this will cause the country to fall in economical and political terms. This can be seen in Sri Lanka as it went through civil war which killed more than 100000 people. This war greatly affect Sri Lanka's economy and causes a major political instability in the country. Due to this, I believe that a country multi-ethnic country must achieve racial harmony in order to benefit everyone.

Evelynkoh's curator insight, July 5, 2013 11:23 AM

Peace and harmony , don't everyone want to stay that way forever? Thats why i seriously wonder , why would people want to start wars , destroying their paradise. In every country's road to success , there must be lots and lots of ups and downs , between its neighboring countries and even between their own people. We're all living in the 21st century , why would we still think in that manner that violence will solve everything? It never will , it will just make the matter worse and cause it to affect a larger amount of people and to last for an even longer period of time. The matter may start of small but because of the use of violence , the matter will start to enlarge and then it would not only be in-between the people who started the matter but the whole country. It will then be reflected badly on the race of the people and also the country. Bit by bit everything will start to fall. Therefore , to me i wonder , why would people want to make things that are simple into things that are so complicated that will cause major damages?

Jerone Taduran's insight:

From what i've read in this article, Google is using google earth to give the people of the earth more possibilitties. Google has done a great job by doing a street view hyperlapse of some places of the world. It helps disabled people to see places in the world that they cannot go to.

Jasmine Tan's curator insight, July 1, 2013 10:05 AM

From this article, I can see that technology is becoming more advanced and that it is helping humans a lot, even google maps is becoming more helpful to humans now. I think that technology improving used to be a ‘possibility” in the past but now it has became something in reality. This means that the possibility to achieve such good technology in the past has became reality. I wonder if technology will take over humans some day and that humans would become more reliant on technology, nothing is natural anymore.

Seeing Possibilities

Seeing Possibilities | Possiblities , Conflict and Prejudice. | Scoop.it
You are today where your thoughts have brought you & you will be tomorrow where your thoughts will lead you. Engage in the future when seeing possibilities.

Via John Michel
Jerone Taduran's insight:

There are many possibilities in life that you can achieve, but we cannot achieve it all. We have to work hard when we want to engage in the future when seeing possibilities. When attitude is everything, then our attitude in everything we do for our future should be good for us. ' You will be tomorrorwwhere your thoughts will lead you', this phrase can make me think a lot of 'possibilities' like where my future would lead me to. Thinking positively will get you more confidence with what we want in the future.

Teo J-lyn's curator insight, July 3, 2013 3:23 AM

I can see that when people are awlays being exposed to negative thoughts and information, they tend to make bad choices due to their negative thoughts, affecting the way he or she lead their life. This cause people to feel demoralised , which will also affect the way they think. Thus, it is important to think positive, and see the brighter side of life. This will allow people to strive towards their goal, and have their desired outcome. I think attitude plays a important role in the way we think. i wonder why do people not think the positive side of life.

Jaslyn Si Jia's curator insight, July 4, 2013 5:59 AM

After reading this article, I realized that positive attitude is needed to determine the life we're living in and also the possibilities that we can achieve. Many people may be affected in their life due to the negative thoughts and attitude that they have, if they had positive attitude in all the things they do, they would live a better life and discover things that they might have never discovered before. These positive attitude and thoughts leads to finding even more possibilities and lead us to the right path onto our future.

Coven Chong Weng's curator insight, July 5, 2013 7:09 AM

From this article, i realise that with the right attitude, we can come up with all different kind of outcome in some situations. If your attitude is positive for everything, everything might just turn out the way that you want it. However if you have a negative attitude, things will not go the way you want it to and it might get even worse. Thus, i wonder why some people dont think with a positive attitude.

Jerone Taduran's insight:

From what ive read in the article and  the comments, i too am shocked that india is one of the most racist country in the world and that Indians do not want to be with other race. I feel that racism should be destroyed just because it is destroying our community.

Teo J-lyn's curator insight, July 3, 2013 3:31 AM

India is the world's second-most racist country after Jordan. I think that people should be more accepting towards other races, their languages as well as their religion and not be prejudice. It do not matter what colour we are, as we are all humans, and have blood flowing in us. I wonder if racism will continue and is the government going to do anything about it . Racism had also become a serious issue.

Seamus Ong's curator insight, July 5, 2013 8:55 AM

This is my insight using the see-think-wonder routine. From this article I can see that people are being judged by the colour of their skin, accent and other stuff. I see that most races are being judged based on what the minority from the race does like how some act or talk in public and based on that, other racial groups are under the impression that all people of that certain race is like that and they thus sterotype or generalise everyone belonging to that race. this article makes me think that racism is a big problem and one of the main causes of conflict in multienthnic societies like racial riots. I wonder if racism will ever stop.

Asha Begum's curator insight, July 6, 2016 5:20 AM

Treating the Indians in this way is not right. White men should change their perception of Indian people. Racism should stop because it is not fair to be prejudiced.

Mind-controlled devices reveal future possibilities

Mind-controlled devices reveal future possibilities | Possiblities , Conflict and Prejudice. | Scoop.it

Bin He, Ph.D., leads a team of scientists and engineers who are working on a device that allows human subjects to control the flight of small, remote-controlled helicopters using only their minds. The researchers believe this technology has the potential to restore mobility and independence to individuals suffering from neuromuscular disorders and paralysis, and could enhance the natural motor functions of pilots, surgeons and ordinary citizens.

Jerone Taduran's insight:

From what i've read in this article, it is showing us that technology can change the world, we can use technology to make the world a better place. Building solar panels all over the world. Now it can even help us to have a mind- controlled device.  The scientists and engineers who are working on this device has done a lot for the people of the world and the world for using all of their time and doing it with a lot of effort to give us this device for us.

I could refer form the article above that there are various types of way to improve our daily life using the capabilities of technology. It mention about this group of scientists and engineers working on a experiment that allows humans to control certain type of device by just using their minds without the movement of their physical body. By the end of this article , I hope that this invention could be used in the future to help those who are physically incapable to do something that they always wanted to.
Shameerza's curator insight, June 28, 2013 6:32 AM

From this article, i can see that Bin He, Ph.D, leads a team of scientists and engineers who are working on a device that allows human to control it by mind. I think that this invention is really fascinating and useful. By planting electrodes in the brain, by a single thought, it allows the beholder to control and move things. I wonder if this is powerful enough to lift heavy objects. In conclusion, this great invention, may lead into a greater and improved human technology in which will give us the power to levitate, move and control objects with only the power of a thought without using strength.

Tan Wenjia Polar Beary's curator insight, June 29, 2013 5:42 AM

Using see think wonder. The articles talkes about how Bin He ph D, and his teams of scientisits and engineers work on the device that allows human subjects to control the flight of small, remote-controlled helicopters using only their mind. This shows that we can turn our imaginations into possibilities. I feel that this article can influence younger generation to turn their imaginations into reality.
