Time and Time again I have witnessed therapeutic success through Hypnotherapy. Everyone questions; what really happens when I get hypnotized? Do I lose my ability to make decisions? Does the Hypnotherapist have control over me? Do the suggestions work? Can I be hypnotized? Here are a few myths and misconceptions.

Myth and Misconceptions about Hypnosis

What is Hypnosis?

Answer: A state of relaxation, “Hypnotherapy” is a form of guided relaxation through suggestions,scripts and guided imagery. Depending on a person’s desire to accomplish change and their attitude about  hypnosis will dictate the outcome of their personal sessions.

Can everyone be hypnotized?

Answer: Yes, as long as an individual has normal physical and psychological functioning, and can relax and concentrate at the same time. People who are not susceptible typically don’t believe it will work for them.

Some people believe that you are in a trance or totally unaware of what you are doing or saying when being hypnotized. You are in control when you are hypnotized.

Some people believe that being hypnotized is like being under anesthesia  when you cannot remember anything. When hypnotized you can remember the session.

When you are under hypnosis you have greater awareness, not less awareness.

Hypnotism can change a behavior but doesn't change the person.

Some people believe that you can you can get stuck in a trance and not wake up, there is a difference between sleeping and being hypnotized. A trance state can be stopped at anytime.

Some people think  when under hypnosis the they are not aware or alert enough for their own will. Some are  afraid to be hypnotized because they feel they  may say something they don’t want another individual to know.

In short Hypnotherapy like anything else is very effective if you want to change. Often clients have more than one issue that they want to address, accordingly for therapeutic reasons you work in an order that is most beneficial for the client. For instance if an individual has an addiction problem, and anxiety, in most cases it would help to start with an anxiety session, and progress the sessions from there. Hypnotherapy success rates vary, greater success is seen in clients that have more sessions, and incorporate the use of self hypnosis Cd's and other holistic therapy.

Empaths are more in tune with everything in life, more connected to human emotion, love all animals, prefer nature over buildings. Empaths trust their gut intuition, and ask for more spiritual guidance.

More connected, and more in tune can make one more prone to psychological, and physical illnesses from absorbing all of the energy around you.I was once told by one of my instructors that I should visualize a suit of armor protecting me from the outside sources. At times I do embrace this technique if I'm becoming over anxious or melancholy. I prefer to embrace my empath abilities as it increases my spiritual intuition.

Anxiety disorder is increasing in leeps and bounds, several natural remedies can be used to help. Hypnotherapy helps from a subconscious level, getting to the root of the cause. Aromatherapy works through olfactory, an essential oil that is calming can help re direct our brain into a calm realm, researchers have linked the sense of smell to life span and depression( see link below). Herbal teas have a sedative effect, some of them are Passionflower, Lemon Balm, Valerian, and Chamomile. Flower essences work to help with the negative emotions of anxiety such as fear. I strongly believe that the mind can heal, and positive energy causes positive movement in our lives. We are a miniature energy vortexes and we can decide if we want positive or negative action. I also believe that several individuals are very empathic, and they absorb all of the various moods that surround them. To a degree we all do so, in a perfect world we would all be happy, full of joy and kind to each other every day, however that is unrealistic because we will have our good, and bad days because we are human. Because we will make mistakes without meaning too, holistic therapiy such as Hypnotherapy can help move us in a positive direction. Each day say a positive affirmation to start the positve movement.

Depression curbs people’s ability to make intuitive judgements, a new study finds for the first time.

The research may help explain why people who are depressed say they find it difficult to make ordinary, everyday decisions.

In the experiment, published in the British Journal of Clinical Psychology, half the participants had major depressive disorder, while the other were a healthy control group (Remmers et al., 2014).

Both groups were given a measure of intuitive thinking which involved finding the link between words.

Many individuals suffer from a host of chronic illnesses that cause pain. Dealing with pain, and the emotions of not being in the same health as you once were can be devastating. I know first hand from a C-spine issue and lumbar spine (sciatic) issue that some days it is hard to stay positive because you cant move, the pain takes over, and  carries you to a realm of darkness. At this point it is hard to stay focused let alone positive. My mission is to help those in physical or emotional pain. I have personally dealt without using pain medications. These essential oil blends are great for pain, however I love a blend of sage, patchouli  other wood notes with a background of citrus. People in pain suffer more from depression then the actual pain. Pain sufferers often suffer more from the melancholy of pain and lack of sleep. Hypnotherapy helps the subconscious heal the pain
