Stripper 101 Blog - Cary NC's Head Over Heels Pole Dance Contest Has Come To a Close!

Stripper 101 Blog - Cary NC's Head Over Heels Pole Dance Contest Has Come To a Close! | Pole Dancing | Scoop.it

In Carey, NC this past weekend, the last phase of the Miss Head over Heels Contest Grand Finale has finally ended until next year’s proceedings begin. The January 6th event was a culmination of over 6 months of contests and competitions, finally coming to a close for the season. Competitors from as far away as Tennessee and New York as well as all across North Carolina have competed to be Miss Head Over Heels 2013! The contest also featured an amateur portion that was designed for the “Everyday Woman” to be able to compete in with little preparation, a means of promoting the newly rising sport and art-form. This was the town of Cary’s very first Pole Competition and all signs point to it being a huge success.

In august of 2012 nearly 40 competitors took the stage to win the championship and title of Miss Head Over Heels. The Preliminaries started in October 2012 and were a gauge for just how the championship rounds would go. The winners of the October Preliminaries will win a spot in the highly regarded Grand Finale Event which has only 16 open spots, and one must defeat many other skilled competitors before they can claim first place. There are two distinct categories to cater to the different levels of skill and styles that are present at this unique and one of a kind competition.

As the fad of Pole Sports continues to rise faster than any other sport in the country, more and more women are increasingly becoming aware of the athletic and emotional benefits of vertical pole Dance. As it continues to grow in popularity even in the Mainstream media, the 2011 National Champion Natasha Wang ended up appearing on the popular TV Show “The View”, Last spring following her sweeping victory in the 2011 championships. Another pole champ named Steven Retchless was lucky and skilled enough to appear on Americas Got Talent in 2011, and the point of the show is for those watching at home to dial in and vote for who they feel is the best, Steven managed to make it through a few rounds indicating a huge shift in how the public perceives pole dancing in general.

“Our goal is to break the stigma associated with Pole Dance Fitness and get people on-board with an energizing & fun way to workout,” says HOH founder and pole fitness instructor Dakota Fox of Aradia Fitness NC. “We wanted a way to get everyday women on the pole to start reaping the benefits of this muscle-carving and endorphin producing fitness practice.”

Pole Sports are increasingly becoming more public and far more popular than they were a few years ago, and it hints at the ever growing tension over whether or not Pole Sports will be featured in the Olympics anytime soon. At the rate at which the sport is growing though, it’s hard to deny the world level competitions will soon be growing beyond anything anyone could have possibly imagined.

So if you want to experience Pole Dancing for yourself in a comfortable and no pressure environment, then don’t forget to check out Las Vegas’ number 1 pole dance class, “Stripper 101” today!

Westbury Dance Instructor Takes UK Championships!

Westbury Dance Instructor Takes UK Championships! | Pole Dancing | Scoop.it

UK Pole Championships conclude and the winner is a local instructor from Westbury. Vicky Peacock was encouraged by her students to enter the contest to which she first just sent a video of her routine! Only 29 years old, she began practicing pole fitness back in 2007, to which she cited that she noticed immediate results soon after she began her training.

She soon after got her own Pole to take home, and began to practice the harder moves in the confines of her own home. After months of practice this way she had developed a broad foundational knowledge of different moves and forms on the pole. Because of her skill she received the opportunity to be an instructor for the local company “Fit-2 Perform Class” that she participated in weekly.

In November of 2009 Mrs. Peacock ended up having twin boys, and from here decided to instruct full time to which she soon after opened her own studio called “Spin Dance Fitness Studio” in the town of Frome.

She says of the victory:

“The award is a massive achievement for me as it shows how far I’ve come in the last few years. I was encouraged to enter into the instructor category by my students, because I didn’t have the confidence at first. I entered a video of myself before I was picked for the grand final at the Inter-national Centre, Telford, where I was required to do a planned routine in front of six judges and 800 people. I wasn’t sure about pole dancing at first as there is a stigma around it, but I was surprised by the physical benefits of it as an exercise.”

Before she was a pole dancing instructor Vicky worked in the financial sector, so naturally she was very nervous and as she puts it she did not expect to win in her category in the December 2nd contest. But through her hard work and perseverance she managed to wow the crowd and was so well received she now feels she has the confidence to overcome any obstacles. Now Mrs. Peacock teaches street dancing as well as Pole Fitness and with her new victory in the UK championships Vicky seems to have quite a bright career ahead of her!

The Southern Regional Pole Sport Champ Of 2012 Makes History!

The Southern Regional Pole Sport Champ Of 2012 Makes History! | Pole Dancing | Scoop.it

It’s November, and if you don’t know what that means for pole sports, think of it like the playoffs of competitive vertical dance. One of the largest being the Pole Sport Organization, with 4 chapters representing all four corners of the U.S., it is easily one of the biggest competitions for vertical dance in America. Earlier in November, the Southern U.S. chapter has held their regional championships in Houston, TX, and their champion isn’t exactly what you would expect. The first place in the Pro Women’s Singles went to a Temecula Business woman by the name of Greta Pontarelli. This business woman/pole dance champion isn’t the part that catches everybody’s attention, it’s actually the fact that she’s 61 years old. That does in fact make her the oldest pole dance competitor in the United States!

Houston is the first stop on the regional tour of championships for the Pole Sport Organization, with the Atlantic, Central and Pacific championships to be held in early 2013. So this 61 year old Pole Dance champ will be competing in the PSO finals still TBA. A mother of two and ex karate competitor first took a vertical dance class 2 years ago when she was 59. Claiming it was to help her get in great shape while building muscle and bone mass to stave off Osteoporosis. Before Greta won the southern championships, she entered into the popular athletic competition and Television show “Ninja Warrior” to which she made it to the semi-finals. Then in summer 2012 she won 2nd place in the Pacific masters artistic competition, and subsequently won 2nd place in the Central Masters Competition. These two big wins helped propel her to her first place title this year in the Southern Competition. Quite a list of accomplishments to talk about at 61 years old, while also winning a floor exercise championship in the 80’s, it seems Greta’s got a while yet before she stops!

Helping to spread the message of competitive and fitness based pole sports, Greta says of the dance form “Pole fitness can be very empowering for women as they will gain physical and mental strength," said Pontarelli. "I hope to inspire baby boomers and others to exercise, eat wholesome foods and continually try to become the best they can become. My message is to never give up…keep challenging yourself. There is no better time to live the life that you would love to live than now."

Apparently that attitude is increasing, as the organization has experienced a massive up-swell in contestants and size within the last 5 years, signs of the times to come maybe? Most surely hope so, so as Vertical Dance is redeemed and redefined across the country and the world, we can only see it moving forward in the coming years. With more tolerance and respect for the Sport and the level of dedication displayed by the competing athletes, the US is slowly coming around. Watch out Olympics, The Pole Sports are coming!

So come and see what Las Vegas’ number 1 vertical Pole Dance Class “Stripper 101” is all about, and introduce yourself to one of the biggest exercise fads sweeping the nation since that “pilate” thing, in a comfortable and relaxed environment you won’t find anywhere else!

US Pole Dance Federation Breaks New Ground With Pro Competitions

US Pole Dance Federation Breaks New Ground With Pro Competitions | Pole Dancing | Scoop.it

Would you believe somebody ten years ago if they told you Pole Dancing would be a recognized Sport with its own official League in 2012? Well its happening, after breaking the initial few year barrier most competitions like this face it looks like it’s going to be smooth sailing for the federation from here on out. Started by two entrepreneurial and dead serious pole dance enthusiasts, Anna Grundstrom and Wendy Traskos. The US Pole Dancing Federation was created to take the sport to a new level, a professionally judged and regulated competition. The old way of finding out who was Queen of the stage was at the most popular nightclubs in the US, and judging would be based on crowd cheers. Now civility has come to that type of atmosphere, as judges experienced in the field devise the rules and accurately critique each performance from an athletic and artistic standpoint.

The Federation does consider this type of thing as a sensual form of athletic dance requiring acrobatic qualities from its performers. A far cry from the club atmosphere dancers are used to competing in. Now Dance routines can be specifically developed for competitions, allowing dancers to take it all to a whole new level with intricate forms and poses, and extreme aerialist techniques reminiscent of the circus. That’s exactly the direction the competition wishes to take the sport, to the artistic and competitive realm. No longer are looks as big of a part of the sport, and one can make it without performing in gentleman’s clubs with practice, dedication and discipline. Just like an acrobat, dancers are expected to reach a certain level of control and intricacy, making the US branch on par with worldwide competitions. Since its formation in early 2008, the competition has served to spark an underground movement of competitive and technical pole dancers. The moves are tough, and most of the girls competing have turned down colleges and other acrobatics studies to pursue high ranking with this new and only legitimate & nationally recognized pole dance contest.

The winners also enjoy a certain amount of fame and success, often its instructors participating in the competition, and what better way to advertise then with a high ranking or even placing in the top 3? Its absolutely a draw, for all instructors and hobbyists across the nation now can have a competitive goal regarding this form of dance. So if you’re thinking about starting a new routine, possibly involving pole dance, don’t be scared! It’s as much of a sport as ballet now and competitors are well respected in the world of dance. On top of it being one of the most intense workouts one can engage in, many women claim after weeks of classes their confidence had never been higher! So what are you waiting for?Stripper 101 offers a fun and relaxing way to learn the moves in a comfortable, no pressure environment.

Being a Pole Fitness Instructor is Much Harder Than You Think! | Stripper101 Blog

Being a Pole Fitness Instructor is Much Harder Than You Think! | Stripper101 Blog | Pole Dancing | Scoop.it

Pole sports are often a subject that keep the eyebrows in the room high, but it’s come a long way from the often perceived “sleazy” roots of the old days. While more and more women are turned on by the benefits of pole sports, ladies of all backgrounds are flocking to local studio’s to get a taste of the one of a kind results you get only while training on the pole! From weight loss to boosting confidence, the range of positives for the hobby are so wide that the sport has attracted many elderly women looking for an alternative to high stress cardio workouts.

Most pole instructors note the positives, but not very often do you hear about the negatives from the instructor’s point of view. While the negative aspects are simply things most gym-goers deal with on a daily basis, it takes a special person to influence and motivate people no matter what. That’s where the trainer comes in, having to deal with a slew of different personalities and body types is more of a challenge than most realize. One has to be able to identify specific strengths and weaknesses in each student to help them overcome any obstructions as confidently as possible.

Instructors are the key-stone that keep the women in class constantly moving forward and pushing towards their goals. Always offering bits of advice and even acting a safety net most of the time, a good instructor can see you not only trim that figure and make yourself more desirable, they can even land you in regional competitions if that’s what you want to do! There are no limits when it comes to pole fitness, you can keep going as far you’d like or reach that goal and simply practice those moves to maintain your shape or impress that significant other.

A few things instructors always advise though are actually universal among all studio teachers. Things such as not wearing baggy clothing, while many assume the women who practice pole fitness wear skimpy clothes to show off, that could not be farther from the truth! The lack of clothing is made to ensure as much skin to pole contact as possible. The entire foundation of complicated pole routines is your ability to grip the pole using muscles that don’t usually have the luxury of a good grip, so it is essential the skin stays un-oiled, un-lotioned and clean before you start your session. The repercussions for not following the ultimate skin rule could be painful, as many new students don’t realize just how complicated some of the pose’s and moves really are.  While underestimating the complicated nature of pole fitness is an easy thing to do, you can’t really understand until you have tried it for yourself.

Pole Position Set To Hit Dundee!

Pole Position Set To Hit Dundee! | Pole Dancing | Scoop.it

Pole sports have been on an ever increasing rise in popularity and no year saw more recognition come to this rising fringe sport more than 2012. Across the world the craze has gone from average fad to bona fide dance craze as dancers of all shapes, sizes and ages look to the sport as an alternative to strenuous gym routines and high maintenance diets. It’s not just in America though that the sport has made major strides, all across the world pole studios are popping up in metropolitan and rural areas alike, and there’s no indication it’s going to stop any time soon.

One woman though has stumbled onto the world of Pole Sports in an albeit different way than most. At 29 year old Heather Thompson was introduced into this risqué new world by her love for skeet shooting. Yes you read that correctly, shooting clay discs out of a high powered rifle is what inspired this industrious young business owner and fitness instructor to set about on her calling. While in college Heather became so efficient in competitive shooting, she ended up landing a sponsorship with “Dunkeld Shooting Academy”. Heather was then trained in shooting by an Olympic grade marksmen named Lain McGregor, and through McGregor, Heather managed to learn the fine points of marksmanship while building massive upper body strength through swimming.

But swimming soon began to drag on Heather as she had no real passion for it and was just using it for conditioning, so she looked to other more “fun and entertaining” alternatives. “Swimming soon bored me and I started pole fitness,” she said. “It started off as a hobby and I was only doing it on Tuesday nights but it was driving me insane only doing it once a week so I started going to “Pole Organization UK” in Edinburgh.”Heather took to her new workout regiment with ease, and soon after began taking private classes to further boost her skills and have a good time while doing it. Most of Heathers week was spent driving the long road to Edinburgh, claiming she loved the sport more than anything she had yet to try. Heather also claims through her short time training on the pole she managed to increase her upper body strength dramatically while boosting her confidence and outlook on her future.

The instructor would then head to New York City for a 5 week training course that would end up testing her abilities as an athlete, claiming in America she had to start from scratch, upon Heathers return she had the will and drive to finally accomplish her newfound dream of opening her own Pole Studio. After scouring her local town of Dundee in the UK for the perfect spot, she soon found it and would open one of the town’s most popular fitness spots, “Pole Position”! Using pole fitness as a way to not only boost confidence, but to stay fit is Heathers ultimate goal, and she feels it is also her mission to offer what she sees as a “miracle workout” to any women in her town who desire a “different” way of doing things.

Pole Sports Say Goodbye to 2012, Hello New Year! | Stripper101 Blog

Pole Sports Say Goodbye to 2012, Hello New Year! | Stripper101 Blog | Pole Dancing | Scoop.it

In 2013 Pole fitness is set to make another round of transitions that will help set the newly founded sport on its way to the big times.  By big teams we of course mean The Olympics..As studios are popping up all over the country and the world, more and more are resorting to various forms of pole fitness and aerial arts. No matter the age, women of all walks of life have proclaimed Vertical pole Dance is one of the best workouts they have ever engaged in.

From confidence to abs, this workout builds more than just the body as women can let loose and feel sexy in a comfortable environment while still burning tons of calories and doing some intense toning! But the trend is hitting all walks of life as a number of celebrities turn to pole fitness as a way to not only maintain a sexy image but to boost their already star powered confidence!

Celebrities aren’t shy about it either, being some of the most vocal supporters of the art form, huge stars such as Kate Moss, Lindsay Lohan, Kate Hudson, Emma Roberts and even Jennifer Anniston is said to move like a pro on the pole. But this is just the tip of the iceberg when it comes to pole-dancing supporters, many more than just celebrities engage in and even compete in world level competitions. In fact the biggest asset the pole-fitness community has are its local studio owners and instructors, such as Karen Everage of “Pole-Licious Fitness.”

Karen had been bored with a standard gym routine before she entered the world of Pole Fitness, she says of her decision..“[I] just decided this was a fitness I could stick with because it was a little sassy, but it also built core strength and upper-body strength so it gave me what I was looking for at the time and it didn’t feel like I was working out. It was more like I was having a good time,”

She emphasized that the pole classes are a fitness regimen above all.

“[Pole dancing] does have a negative stigma to it, but I try not to use sexy; I use sassy. And I always say this is a pole fitness class … the dance part is a plus. The emphasis is on fitness,” Everage said, adding some of her students are older than 60.

Everage says the World of Pole Sports have taught her valuable lessons about discipline and sticking to your decisions, adding that that you can’t just “Wake up one morning and decide to engage in a life changing fitness routine, it takes work and time to let that sink into your mind and become real” and she is absolutely right! Saying most of her students sign up in January, and more than half are gone by February, albeit with good intentions. But it’s enthusiasts like Karen that will help propel Pole Sports into the public eye and eventually the world stage!

Pink Puma and Accro Take The Gold in 3rd Annual American Pole Contest! | Stripper101 Blog

Pink Puma and Accro Take The Gold in 3rd Annual American Pole Contest! | Stripper101 Blog | Pole Dancing | Scoop.it

Well the third annual American pole Fitness Championships have ended and the winners have been announced! This year’s contest was most notably the biggest, having been hosted by comedians Adam Lucidi and Latice Michelle Klapa, the event opened up in a big way as contestants from all over The United States got a chance to compete in the world level contest. Both gold medal winners happened to be first timers in the competition, and if you follow the emergence of Pole Sports the last few years this has almost always been the case. With such a huge number of gymnasts and athletes turning to Pole Sports for recreation, training and further competition, the sport itself is well on the way to Olympic recognition.

The winners of the Men’s and Women’s contests will take their medals to next year’s World Pole Championships, with winners from all the regional competitions around the globe going at it for the title of World champ. Pink Puma (Yes that is her name) took the women’s contest using flexibility and precision mixed with her impressive originality to create a routine that had the crowd stunned! Likewise the male gold winner, “Accro” (Yes That is his name) took over through a sheer demonstration of what many called “masculine Strength” to give judges no other clear choice except for him.

But the contest was perilously close, as 2 runner ups for the women’s contest and likewise for the men’s made it a contest that came down to the very last minute for the judges. But in the other categories the APFA Pole Athlete of the Year went to Samantha Star while APFA Pole Artist of the Year went to Heidi Coker. This will be Heidi’s second time winning the artist of the year award.

“DJ Coker” kept the energy running high throughout the prestigious competition, keeping the cheer and spirit high and keeping competitors pumped up. The gold sponsor of this year’s competition was none other than “The Vertical Dance Fitness Studios” based in Venezuela.

While the judges were a number of well respected Pole enthusiasts and instructors, familiar with the finer points of the art to give a healthy and fair judging of the competitors.

Slowly but surely companies are turning out of the woodwork to provide support and encouragement for the newly budding trend that’s taking the nation quicker than any other workout crazy in the past two decades! Companies like “Mighty Grip” provided equipment for the contestants as well as contributions from “Pole Spin magazine” which was the official media sponsor and is one of the biggest outlets for news and information concerning Pole Sports and their bid to gain Olympic recognition. So here in contribution and for winning the US branch of the competition, we congratulate Pink Puma and Accro for their dedication and contributions to the sport on a local and worldwide scale, and truly hope the trend continues the way it has in the next few years.

But if you are looking to try out your own “Las Vegas” version of pole dance, and maybe experience the more “exotic” side of pole sports, check out Las Vegas’ number 1 pole dance class “Stripper 101” today!

Are Pole Sports Destined For The Olympics?

Are Pole Sports Destined For The Olympics? | Pole Dancing | Scoop.it

Well it’s another year, and another world pole competition has ended, but just how much closer are pole sports to becoming an Olympic reality? Well every year for the past three years the competition has garnered competitors from all over the world. 2012 was no exception, with 60 competitors from over 25 countries! The competition is sponsored by the International pole Sports Federation, probably the biggest of all the world competitions regarding vertical dance. The Organization was put together by master dancer and pole sport enthusiast “KT Coates” and a few of KT’s friends. KT Coates retains president status of the competition and is an avid supporter of the sport going official, as in Olympic style official! Gathering over 7,000 signatures worldwide proved there was thirst for a world competition, as well as the US Pole Sports Federation and a number of other organizations vying to have a worldwide event. The idea is that the National and World level competitions would be preliminaries for a major Olympic event involving pole sports and a chance for competitors to gain recognition during the four year lull.

The world event features multiple categories, and a best trick section within each category. There is a men’s category, women’s singles, and women’s doubles. The men’s category and the doubles are very serious but not as widely popular as the females singles. The 2012 winner was a demonstration of the newly emerging popularity of pole sports in Eastern Europe and Russia. Natalia Tatarintseva was dubbed the winner of the singles section for this years’ competition. Not even 23 years old yet, Natalie is a gymnast from Ukraine who attended a prestigious Gymnast school to which she came to the United States and discovered vertical dancing while teaching a flexibility class. In 2011 she entered the same competition only to be a semi-finalist, this time she took home first place, serving as a reminder it takes only passion and dedication as well as skill and ability to make it to the top. Be sure to see Natalie wow audiences next year as well, with only 3 years of vertical dance on her resume she has already won an international people’s choice award, and a world championship. Talk about future gold medalist!

Now the issue is why can’t a competitor who dedicates the time and shows impressive ability compete in their chosen sport at the Olympic games? The answer is taboo! Many conservative eyes still view the sport as nothing more than a hobby, and a dirty one at that! But we can never stress enough how gentleman’s club do not define pole sports! While exotic dancing is one outlet, there are literally hundreds of different styles and forms that are appropriate, thousands of years old and widely accepted across the world. The pole itself simply brings up taboo ideas that most people reject without further analyzing it for what it is, an ancient circus act. But for now the sport is in a better place than ever, and is quickly rising in prominence and becoming more and more professional, which is good news to the girls who work their butts off! So check out Las Vegas’ number one Vertical dance class “Stripper 101” today! Remember, Pole Sports are a form of gymnastics, it should be Olympic!
