Gro Garden Teaches Student About Gardening - iPad Apps for School

Gro Garden Teaches Student About Gardening - iPad Apps for School | Sustainable chicken farming - a special education project | Scoop.it

| Gro Garden is an iPad app designed to help students learn about gardening. The app features a virtual garden in which children plant seeds then water and fertilize the seeds until they become plants. Once the plants pop-up through the dirt students have to continue watering and fertilizing until the plants are ready to harvest. Students can control the amount of water and sunshine their plants receive throughout the virtual growing process."

Kathb123's insight:

Using iPads is highly recommended in the school environment where I am doing my prac. Although I haven't met my students yet, I am starting to consider ideas on what they may find interesting and what they could possibly utilise. On the home front, teaching the "outside" world to my "inside" kid can be beneficial. This way he learns where his food comes from and doesn't have to get his hands dirty!

Via Jocelyn Stoller
Kathb123's insight:

Temple Grandin has a unique way of looking at the world. Her ability to look at situations objectively allows for an alternative insight into practices that can be improved in the way we do things. This is most certainly paramount in her work with animals. The above mentioned book discusses how we can give our animals the best life including chickens. Temple Grandin is an inspiration to many students with Autism. Proving that her "disability" is not holding her back.

Temple does have amazing insight into the way animals think and she obviously uses that in her design thinking when designing cattle yards that have the least negative impact on the animals.

Kathb123's insight:

I scooped this resource from a fellow student, Amy Jones. This resource is relevant to my curation project as it caters for all learning levels and there are worksheets, videos and quizzes to assist in the learning of where our food comes from. The recipes are also an added addition. The resource supports the Technologies Curriculum and is linked in many ways, through strands such as: 'Investigate food and fibre production and food technologies used in modern and traditional societies (ACTDEK012).'
