While major label recording artists Anti-Flag are getting attention for their new album in which they never mention the president by name, Pittsburgh punk rock band, The Homisides, have taken a more direct approach that is more in line with the tradition of loud, confrontational, no-limits punk rock of the Reagan era.
When The Homisides released the video for their new song, "ATA - Anti-Trump Army", they expected a backlash from Trump supporters. While there was some poorly written outrage from "trolls" on The Homsides' Facebook page, the song and video were met with viral popularity leading to over 20,000 views on YouTube within a few weeks, as well as thousands of listeners on music streaming and download services like Spotify and iTunes.
A spokesperson for the band says, "we aren't usually a political band, and we know our song is not going to change anyone's mind. It isn't meant to do that. It's more like a cathartic rant about the absurdity of it all. We expected to have to deal with trolls and maybe some threats - which we did get a lot of. What we didn't expect was to see this song become so popular. It gives some hope that maybe the whole world has not gone completely crazy, and we're having a lot of fun with it. It's also cool to see people singing along with lines like 'baby hands tweet dumb shit' at our shows."
