How to engage millennials? Appeal to 3 core values, 3 core traits

How to engage millennials? Appeal to 3 core values, 3 core traits | Profesh | Scoop.it

With all the conflicting information on millennials' relationship with social change, how do we successfully engage these generations in positive behavior change? Do they care about your brand's social impact? Do they actually align their spending with their values? Or are they so cash-strapped and overwhelmed with information that clicktivism is the most we can expect?

In reality, all generations share a set of core motivations that drive our decision-making (hint: it's not our rational thought). But millennials and Generation Z have grown up in a different context and with a new set of digital tools that also influence behavior.

To best mobilize this audience around your brand and mission, we need to understand what core values and trends that drive behavior change...

What Have You Done Lately To Take Control Of Your Time?

What Have You Done Lately To Take Control Of Your Time? | Profesh | Scoop.it

It’s 5 PM and you know that you have at least 2-3 more hours of work to get done. Sadly, with a fair amount of frustration you click into your calendar and cancel the yoga class appointment.

Looks like you will be forgoing yet another session in favor of getting this project out the door before you head home for the night. So goes the life of an ambitious overly-focused employee or entrepreneur.

I am a habitual offender of the “Gonna skip yoga class to get X done” mindset. It ends with a finished project and an exhausted me.

Not exactly productive.

There is always an excuse, and that excuse is usually a limitation that you have no control over. Or one that you have convinced yourself you have no control over.

Dermot Crowley's curator insight, October 27, 2014 3:22 AM

Here is a great insight into the discipline we need to protect time for ourselves. Just like the idea that courage is not the absence of fear, but doing the right thing in the face of fear, discipline is not absence of pressure or busyness, it is doing the right thing in spite of it. Go to yoga tonight, or to the gym, or just home early!

Passion at Work: Cultivating worker passion as a cornerstone of talent development

Passion at Work: Cultivating worker passion as a cornerstone of talent development | Profesh | Scoop.it
Up to 87.7 percent of America’s workforce is not able to contribute to their full potential because they don’t have passion for their work. Less than 12.3 percent of America’s workforce possesses the attributes of worker passion. This “passion gap” is important because passionate workers are committed to continually achieving higher levels of performance. In today’s rapidly changing business environment, companies need passionate workers because such workers can drive extreme and sustained performance improvement—more than the one-time performance “bump” that follows a bonus or the implementation of a worker engagement initiative. These workers have both personal resilience and an orientation toward learning and improvement that helps organizations develop the resilience needed to withstand and grow stronger from continuous market challenges and disruptions.

What is Critical Thinking? (Explained with Great Videos)

What is Critical Thinking? (Explained with Great Videos) | Profesh | Scoop.it

In simple terms, it is the process of breaking down what you know and information you have, and then evaluating and critically analyzing it in order to make an informed decision without bias.

A critical thinker:

- Is open-minded and mindful of alternatives
- Desires to be, and is, well-informed
- Judges well the credibility of sources
- Identifies reasons, assumptions, and conclusions
- Asks appropriate clarifying questions
- Judges well the quality of an argument, including its reasons, assumptions, evidence, and their degree of support for the conclusion
- Can well develop and defend a reasonable position regarding a belief or an action, doing justice to challenges
- Formulates plausible hypotheses
- Plans and conducts experiments well
- Defines terms in a way appropriate for the context
- Draws conclusions when warranted – but with caution
- Integrates all of the above aspects of critical thinking

How to Build a Culture of Givers: 4 Tips

How to Build a Culture of Givers: 4 Tips | Profesh | Scoop.it

Givers are the kinds of people who will go out of their way to help others with no strings attached. This is in comparison to matchers--those who believe in an eye for an eye--and takers--people who are always trying to get as much as they can out of others.

Grant, a professor of management at the Wharton School of the University of Pennsylvania, spoke about his research on these three character profiles Wednesday at the annual Inc. 5000 conference in Phoenix.

Grant found that overly generous people tend to fail in the short term, but succeed in the long run. Their failures are due to the fact that they often get trampled by the takers around them. However, if you as a leader, can weed out the greedy ones, you can pave the way for your employees', and your organization's, long-term success.

How Technology Is Creating New Sources Of Power

How Technology Is Creating New Sources Of Power | Profesh | Scoop.it

In business, Michael Porter described advantage as domination of the value chain in order to project power throughout an industry. However you define it, power is important because it allows you to get things done. Whether you are a politician or an executive, you must seek power to achieve objectives. Yet power never stays constant, but has always been highly dependent on context and, in today’s world of rapidly shifting contexts, emerging sources of power are often the most potent.
