MPEG2 Based Codec for 5D Mark III?

MPEG2 Based Codec for 5D Mark III? | Photography Gear News | Scoop.it
At least we aren’t talking about RAW video!
Codec talk has been running rampant for a while in regards to the 5D Mark III, is most of it fact or wishlist?

According to EOSHD, Canon is working on an MPEG2 based codec for the 5D Mark III. It will have a 4-2-2 color space. Another feature will be a variable bitrate up to 50mbit. The codec will be an improved version from the XF305

The move is motivated by the desire to avoid paying Sony and Panasonic a licensing fee for AVCHD/H.246.

Adobe and Apple have already taken up the format, so applications for native editing will not be a problem.

Editing HD video from a DSLR - why a software upgrade may be best | Photography Gear News | Scoop.it
The widespread availability of HD video recording on everything from mobile phones to DSLRs has seen us capturing events in better quality than ever before. DSLRs in particular have proven a revelation in movie capture: what they lack in video ergonomics and ease of focusing is more than made up for in flexibility and sheer quality. How To Build A Full Studio At A Music Festival

How To Build A Full Studio At A Music Festival | Photography Gear News | Scoop.it
If you’ve ever attended a crazy big music or art festival then the thought has probably crossed your mind, “I should probably photograph these interesting characters while I’m here!” While attending the annual free expression festival Burning Man in Nevada, photographer Eric Schwabel decided to build a portable photo studio to capture dramatic portraits of everyone in attendance.
His setup consisted of two strip boxes, two Profoto Pro-B2 power packs, and two Profoto Pro-7 heads. Everything was shot on a Mamiya 645 AFD with a DM28 digital back. I must say, I would be a little nervous bringing this sort of gear out to the dusty desert, but then I would have been the guy who missed out on creating such a cool project!
