Sophia Mameli's curator insight, November 29, 2017 12:54 PM
Not only is it sad that these animals are being held captive, but it makes it worse that majority of these animals are very intelligent, such as the beluga whale, and should not be treated harmfully and recklessly. They should be able to use their intelligence in the environment they are meant to be in, the ocean.

Seht Khan's curator insight, March 30, 2014 8:21 PM

Here is a story of an elephant that was captured and  taken away from her native environment.  This elephant, ironically named patience, had to deal with years of being shipped around the U.S. to many different facilities and had her calf taken from her at an unnaturally young age.  The strain of captivity and being separated from her baby lead her to take the life of her trainer, John Bradford.

Not many details are available on the killing, however the article does mention a hook used to abuse the elephants and a disease that is only known to be contracted by captive elephants.
