ABUNDANCE, WEALTH & PROSPERITY by Mercedes Jahn

Is it outside of us or is it inside?? ... or is it both??....

I have had both experiences... as a young gal, I believed good things or bad thing would happen to me and I had no say on them... I could not be the capitan of my destiny... it was not even a belief that crossed my mind....

Today, well ... today it´s a different story... I am the capitan of my life, I do believe I am wealth, joy, prosperity, health, love, and abundance... those are the glasses I see my life through ...

What´s fascinating is my life shapping as I believe it can shape...  all the goods, and bads, and happys and sads are welcome, my BEING knows I am all of the abundance, happiness and prosperity I am... that sometimes goes through difficulties that have a beggining and and end... Pain comes however suffering is optional.... how cool is that ?!!

Going back to first question... inside, outside or both....? well... whatever I  am inside.. that`s what becomes outside...

Harvard researchers discover hormon that spurs beta cell production. Monthly alternative to insulin?

Harvard researchers discover hormon that spurs beta cell production. Monthly alternative to insulin? | PEOPLE PEOPLE PEOPLE " | Scoop.it

Researchers at the Harvard Stem Cell Institute have discovered a hormone that holds promise for a dramatically more effective treatment of type 2 diabetes, a metabolic illness afflicting an estimated 26 million Americans. It could eventually mean that instead of taking insulin injections three times a day, you might take an injection of this hormone once a week or once a month, or in the best case maybe even once a year,” said Doug Melton (right). Melton and postdoctoral fellow Peng Yi discovered the hormone betatrophin, which has the potential to improve diabetes treatment.

Researchers at the Harvard Stem Cell Institute (HSCI) have discovered a hormone that holds promise for a dramatically more effective treatment of type 2 diabetes, a metabolic illness afflicting an estimated 26 million Americans. The researchers believe that the hormone might also have a role in treating type 1, or juvenile, diabetes.

The hormone, called betatrophin, causes mice to produce insulin-secreting pancreatic beta cells at up to 30 times the normal rate. The new beta cells only produce insulin when called for by the body, offering the potential for the natural regulation of insulin and a great reduction in the complications associated with diabetes, the leading medical cause of amputations and non-genetic loss of vision.

The researchers who discovered betatrophin, HSCI co-director Doug Meltonand postdoctoral fellow Peng Yi, caution that much work remains to be done before it could be used as a treatment in humans. But the results of their work, which was supported in large part by a federal research grant, already have attracted the attention of drug manufacturers.

Special Issue on Mindfulness Neuroscience | Social Cognitive and Affective Neuroscience

Special Issue on Mindfulness Neuroscience | Social Cognitive and Affective Neuroscience | PEOPLE PEOPLE PEOPLE " | Scoop.it

From Editorial by Yi-Yuan Tang and Michael I Posner:

Mindfulness neuroscience is a new, interdisciplinary field of mindfulness practice and neuroscientific research; it applies neuroimaging techniques, physiological measures and behavioral tests to explore the underlying mechanisms of different types, stages and states of mindfulness practice over the lifespan. Mindfulness-based meditation (MBM) or mindfulness-based intervention (MBI) has been a hot topic in psychology, neuroscience, health care and education in recent years (Chiesa and Serretti, 2010;Holzel et al., 2011), and publications have been rapidly growing from only 28 in 2001 to 397 papers listed in ISI during 2011. Many studies indicate the positive effects of MBM or MBI and researchers explore the mechanisms (Lutz et al., 2008; Tang and Posner, 2009; Chiesa and Serretti, 2010; Holzel et al., 2011; Tang et al., 2012a). However, the mechanisms of mindfulness practice are still poorly understood.

To improve the understanding of mindfulness mechanisms, we began a special issue on mindfulness neuroscience in Social Cognitive and Affective Neuroscience (SCAN) in the fall of 2010 and invited more than 20 leading research laboratories in this field from all over the world. In this special issue, we include 12 peer-reviewed empirical articles using neuroimaging to address neural mechanisms and clinical issues in mindfulness neuroscience. The articles in this special issue offer a sample of the cutting-edge discoveries being made at the frontier of mindfulness neuroscience.

Single moms (and other strong women) need alpha males

Single moms (and other strong women) need alpha males | PEOPLE PEOPLE PEOPLE " | Scoop.it

The other night my single mom friend Sarah and I were IMing about how we prefer men who are aggressive in bed.

“I’m the CEO of my entire life!” Sarah complained. “Do you know how hot it is to let someone else take over for 20 minutes?”

“It’s not just in bed – give me a vacation from my life for a while,” I responded. I was referencing my weekend date — a guy I met on OKCupid named Lou who I have pretty much nothing in common with but proved to be the perfect Saturday night activity. For the past few months I’ve been in a dateless funk fueled by disappointment that a love interest didn’t pan out and a long, grey, life-filled winter. Despite being little of what I am looking for in the long-term, this Sicilian-born, Harley-riding electrical engineer from Queens charmed me with a witty profile, flirty and articulate messages and pics that suggested — quite accurately, I found — a darling smile and a 6’3″ body built like a brick shit house...

The mind? A collection of computerlike information processes, which happen to take place in carbon-based rather than silicon-based hardware.

The self? Simply a “center of narrative gravity,” a convenient fiction that allows us to integrate various neuronal data streams.

The elusive subjective conscious experience — the redness of red, the painfulness of pain — that philosophers call qualia? Sheer illusion."

Self as a "center of narrative gravity" and convenient fiction? I'm listening. Anattā on my mind, looking forward to this book from the thinker that almost inspired me to chase down a philosophy degree after becoming a scientist (One of my thesis advisors, Kim Plunkett, dissuaded me with the admonition that to do so would be self-indulgent at that point. Kim's advice never having steered me wrong, I pursued a postdoc instead...and made no time at all to read philosophy on my own. Nine years later and, finally!, finding time).

New gene therapy trials aim to mend broken hearts

Researchers said on Tuesday they planned to enroll patients into two new clinical trials using Mydicar, a gene therapy treatment made by privately held U.S. biotech company Celladon.

After more than 20 years of research, the ground-breaking method for fixing faulty genes is starting to deliver, with European authorities approving the first gene therapy for an rare metabolic disease last November.

In the case of heart failure, the aim is to insert a gene called SERCA2a directly into heart cells using a modified virus, delivered via a catheter infusion. Lack of SERCA2a leads to ever weaker pumping in people with heart failure.
