The Revolution of Everyday Life: The Decline and Fall of Work

The Revolution of Everyday Life: The Decline and Fall of Work | Peer2Politics | Scoop.it

The necessity of production is so easily proved that any hack philosopher of industrialism can fill ten books with it. Unfortunately for these neo-economist thinkers, these proofs belong to the nineteenth century, a time when the misery of the working classes made the right to work the counterpart of the right to be a slave, claimed at the dawn of time by prisoners about to be massacred. Above all it was a question of surviving, of not disappearing physically. The imperatives of production are the imperatives of survival; from now on, people want to live, not just to survive.

When children connect everything, the screen age comes to an end - The Networked Society Blog | Peer2Politics | Scoop.it

Ever since the TV became popular in the late 50s, we have spent a lot of time in front of screens. Still, when I talk to people about the trend “Children connect everything” in our Ericsson ConsumerLab report 10 Hot Consumer Trends for 2015 and Beyond, I am often met by the attitude that “I don’t want my kids to sit in front of screens anymore.”

Project of the Day: Atadiat - Bringing Open Source Hardware to Syria | P2P Foundation | Peer2Politics | Scoop.it
Just few weeks ago, I’ve been informed for the first time about the existence of an Open Source Hardware Startup called Atadiat, operating in Syria. I stumbled upon the news since a friend shared a tweet mentioning the Shamduino board (an Arduino inspired board) and the fact that the board was basically made out of locally sourced materials. I basically reacted enthusiastically since – as you probably know if you’ve read some of the opeds here on the OPen Electronics blog – I’m strongly interested also in the impacts that open source hardware must and could have towards manufacturing and relocalization of productions also in terms of materials and supply chain in general.

Networked Influence in Social Media

This special issue presents leading-edge work into how the characteristics of social media affect the nature of influence in networks. Our central thesis is that social influence has become networked influence. Influence is networked in two ways: by occurring in social networks and by propagating through online communication networks. We want to understand online social influence in its diversity: who is exercising influence, how it is done, how to measure influence, what its consequences are, and how online and offline influences intertwine in different contexts.
