Connectivism: Bearing a Heavy Node

Connectivism: Bearing a Heavy Node | Pedagogy and technology of online learning | Scoop.it
I recently came across this infographic on learning theory on the most excellent blog, TeachThought. As you can see, with the digital age, a new theory of learning has emerged called Connectivism. it is a theory advanced by George Siemens and Stephe

This new theory called connectivism allow us to know technologie is contributing and modifying some aspects of our learning process. We are all born with a special way to learn and the environment modifies, expands or influences the way we learn. Learning theories allows us to closely observe these different ways of learning, and how we fit into some of them or we are a little bit of each. Connectivism could be more related to the new generation that is born in the era of technology, but in fact its influence is also evident in the learning of all who have access to technology for whatever reason.

diane gusa's insight:

What is humanizing?

Humanized learning increases the relevance of content and improves students' motivation to log-in week-after-week. When students relate to an online instructor as something more than a subject matter expert and begin to conceive of themselves as part of a larger community, they are more likely to be motivated, be satisfied with their learning, and succeed in achieving the course objectives (Picciano, 2002; Rovai & Barnum, 2003;  Richardson & Swan, 2003)

Beth Dichter's curator insight, November 16, 2014 7:39 PM

Have you wondered what connectivism is? This infographic, using information from Stephen Downes and George Siemens provides this definition for connectivism:

"...the thesis that knowledge is distributed across a network of connections, and therefore that learning consists of the ability to connect and traverse those networks."

What are the 8 principles? They are listed below but you will find much more information in the infographic.

1. Learning and knowledge rest in a diversity of opinions

2. Learning is the process of connecting specialized nodes

3. Learning may reside in non-human appliances

4. Capacity to know is more important than what is currently known

5. Nurturing and maintaining connections is needed to facilitate continual learning

6. The ability to define connections between concepts is important

7. Currency (accurate, up-to-date knowledge) is the intent of all connectivist learning activities

8. Decision-making is a learning process as information can change and what is viewed as correct one day may be incorrect the next

The second part of this infographic focuses on What Does an Online Connectist Course Look Like?

There is much information to be found in this lengthy infographic. It also includes a list of works consulted.
