Newsweek recently labeled my university as the least-rigorous in the country. I neither appreciate nor understand that rating. I don’t appreciate it for selfish reasons: I’m working toward my third degree from this school. And while I acknowledge that my school is not ivy-league, I also don’t like what Newsweek’s rating does for the school’s reputation. I don’t understand the rating because I’ve seen what counts for coursework in other schools. (My significant other has lots of experience with lots of community colleges and universities throughout Florida.) Most of the classes I see at my school are challenging and expect a lot from students. Indeed, one of our professors recently gained fame on Reddit for a letter he wrote to his students asking them to think outside their comfort zones.
