Great article. To me it's just common sense - being out in nature or looking out a hospital window viewing trees has to be less stressful than looking a the side of a building.

Nature is healing and it affects how our bodies respond.

Narrated Slideshow – Screencast Tool Comparison

Narrated Slideshow – Screencast Tool Comparison | PDHPE | Scoop.it

A screencast is a digital recording of a computer screen with audio narration. Screencasts can include telestrator (‘John Madden pen’) annotations. Narrated slideshows include audio recordings synchronized to images without hand-drawn annotations.

Screencasts and narrated slideshows can be created with two kinds of tools:

1. Browser-based: Create an account on the website and use a modern web browser like Google Chrome or FireFox to record, save and share it.

2. Client-based: Download and install software on a computing device to record and save.

Mind mapping is a method that works for quite a lot of people. Brain storming, idea mapping, thought generation, think tanks – call it what you will. Traditionally done on large pieces of paper, why not use your iPad to create mind maps? You could use these for your own purposes, or “convert” those large flip charts into a smaller, digital version.

“The FIRST studies discovered that focusing on a specific pace prepares runners physiologically and mentally for racing,”

Sounds like the training principle Specificity to me? Something that has been around sport/fitness training for decades. While I agree with the ideas presented here, let's remember that specificity moves from general to specific training and before you do the specific higher intensity speed training you need to have a solid base to support that.

I visited the FIRST website, I could not find any links to their "studies", it would be good to see some of their research.

Warm up and Cool down

Warm up and Cool down | PDHPE | Scoop.it

An appropriate warm up should prepare the body for physical activity. Warm up routines need to be specific to the nature of the sport. For example, a warm up for a game of touch needs to include running with changes of direction, forwards and backwards running and ball passing. A good warm up gradually prepares the body for the demands that will be faced during participation in the sport.

A cool down eases the body into recovery and reduces the severity of soreness. A cool down should not be as intense as a warm up.

Which type of stretching is most valid in the warm-up and the cool-down? How do you know when you have warmed - up?
