Ambulance to patients: have patience
ABC Local
Ambulance to patients: have patience. The Queensland Ambulance Service says it's better to call 000 and wait for the ambulance, than drive an injured person to hospital.
TE-ARN MYERS's insight:

Heaps better to receive immediate treatment while on the way to the hospital than to risk the health and safety of a patient and driver on serious accidents.

Are our penalties killing businesses?
Gympie Times
Ambulance and police officers, nurses, security guards, bakers, road workers, etc, don't have the luxury of deciding when they'd like to clock on. Certainly there's a ...
TE-ARN MYERS's insight:

Penalty rates for anyone who work outside normal business hours should never be taken away. Shift work has been linked to health conditions such as obesity, heart disease, sleep disorders and digestive problems (Better Health Channel, 2014). The inability to have access to a regular routine can affect the health and safety of a worker due to disrupted and irregular sleep patterns, poor access to healthy food options and difficulties in participating in sporting and exercise due to either long night shifts, irregular shifts or always being on call. There should always be an incentives and compensation for workers to engage in these types of uncertain shift work hours.

Can Paramedics Recognize STEMIs? | Street Watch: Notes of a ... | Paramedics and OHS Encounters | Scoop.it
Despite this well done study, I continue to support field activation of the cath lab through paramedic interpretation alone, but I do believe we need to increase our 12-lead training efforts.
TE-ARN MYERS's insight:

It is a requirement that paramedics be able to interpret a 12 lead ECG. Sometimes it takes the right teacher though to explain it and not everyone is going to get it the first time around. More patience and extra training should be provided without ramifications to those who are struggling to understand.

Put safety first when doing DIY projects this year | Queensland ... | Paramedics and OHS Encounters | Scoop.it
Getting jobs done around the home may be a good New Year's resolution, but without the proper safety equipment, a simple handyman job could turn to tragedy. This New Year, the Queensland Ambulance Service (QAS) is ...
TE-ARN MYERS's insight:

It can cost you a lot more and make you a lot more uncomfortable to skip the safety gear if you have an accident than what it would just to put it on and be aware of the dangers before you undertake risky projects around the home. What would happen if you couldn't go to work because of an injury? Not worth the risk.

All parents and pool owners should have a first aid certificate with CPR. Can mean the difference between life and death or permanent disability.

Emma Petersen's curator insight, March 7, 2014 11:27 PM

A Parent's worst nightmare can be preventable just by spreading awareness about pool safety, the importance of early swimming lessons and having a secure gate. Turning your back on a child for a minute can be so dangerous when water is involved and EVERYONE needs to know this and know what to do in such event.

Lauren Swift's curator insight, April 28, 2014 11:37 PM

This article explains how important swim safety is especially since it is approaching the hotter weather. That guardians/parents need to supervise there children when around water at all times not just in a pool but anywhere near water, and what to do if something goes wrong. How to perform correctly CPR whilst they are waiting for the paramedics to arrive, this is especially important as it can make a big difference between survival and death.

CT-6 is a future fracture management, I will be using this once I am on road as a Paramedic.  This will make life easier for me when managing femur fracture.
