Jason Yau's curator insight, April 8, 2013 12:25 AM

I often hear, "I don't want to trust too quickly because I'll get hurt".  What I find interesting is that we hold so much back because we fear getting hurt because we get judged or laughed at.

But for those who put themselves out there (guys and girls), they gain the greatest rewards in forging great relationships through effort and perseverence.  The thing we seldom acknowledge is that they are still scared of being hurt - they just choose to go through with it anyway ...

7 Questions To Ask Kids To Encourage Empathy

7 Questions To Ask Kids To Encourage Empathy | Paralelo | Scoop.it

These smart ideas for encouraging children to be more empathetic are from Start Empathy, a new education initiative created by the nonprofit Ashoka. The goal is to get kids and adults thinking about the topic—key for raising kids who understand others’ feelings and perspectives, and key for raising kids who care. These seven questions will help get even the most me-centric kid (and what kid isn’t?!) thinking about other people.

How does that make you feel?...

Do you know at times I’ve also felt scared?...

How would that make your [brother/sister/friend] feel?...

What do you think [a particular character] felt?...

Why do you thinkhe/she made those choices?...

What emotion is that?...

If you had superpowers, how would you use them to help...

What were you like when you were nine years old?...

How to Build the Perfect Tweet: an infographic guide

How to Build the Perfect Tweet: an infographic guide | Paralelo | Scoop.it

A tweet only has 140 characters; with such a small amount of characters at your disposal, you need to make the most of each one.

The perfect tweet consists of three main parts: your message, a link and blank space. Here's what each section should include:

Message:

Call to action: Tell readers what you want them to do.Hashtags: Include one or two to increase your reach among people who don't follow you.Tone: Use your own voice, but in a professional way.Format: Use a mix of headlines, questions and statistics to drive clicks and retweets.

Link:

Shortened URLs: Bit.ly links earn the most retweets.

Blank space:

Leave room for at least 20 characters at the end of your tweet so retweeters can add comments.
