Why is organ & tissue donation taboo for Kenyans?

Why is organ & tissue donation taboo for Kenyans? | Organ Donation & Transplant Matters Resources | Scoop.it

There is an urgent need for corneas that can then be used to correct the vision of patients affected by disorders of the cornea including keratoconus. Although corneas are imported into Kenya, the cost is prohibitive for many patients as well as the health system. Hence there is a real need to improve the rates of tissue donation along with the rates of organ donation in Kenya so that more patients can benefit.

Attempts are being made to educate people in the community with some of the medical professionals now raising awareness of the importance of organ and tissue donation in order to assist with leading the efforts to achieve much needed change in Kenya.
