What is Post Digital? | NEXT Network | Open and Social Education Culture | Scoop.it
So, what exactly is this concept of Post Digital? It's not (yet) a widely known one. A quick poll of my Twitter followers this morning suggests that only a handful have grasped the idea, with only one very clear, concise answer: @adders The state of being in which you assume the digital instead of marvelling at it.

#Makerspace for Education - University of British Columbia MET #makered | Open and Social Education Culture | Scoop.it
Despite the popularity and trend of the term “makerspace”, educators have to search hundreds of articles, websites and books to determine what this term is, how to begin, where to locate materials and determine the educational significance. Another complication is that the resurgence of this DIY movement found its grassroots in the public population and is just starting to make its way back to education. This makes navigating materials from an educational lens even more challenging.  Makerspace for Education, is a collaborative digital space for educators to explore how to create and use makerspaces in their own environments and will help to transform pedagogies of individual educators through immersion in the context and the support of a community of practice.

EdTechTeam: The How (and Why) It's Time to Create Digital Portfolios

EdTechTeam: The How (and Why) It's Time to Create Digital Portfolios | Open and Social Education Culture | Scoop.it
Digital Student Portfolios are becoming more important now than ever! Students are creating and remixing information like never before – and where is all that amazing work going? At my old school it was wiped off the devices at the end of the year – a heart-wrenching idea that I was personally against. This is why we need to publish student work in one place and let it serve as a home of student reflection, and a become a destination to unleash student pride and curiosity.

There are many reasons to begin the journey to digital portfolios – here are just a few.

Do you remember the days before you carried around the world in your pocket?

That would have been before Tim Berners-Lee, a British computer scientist, submitted his proposal for what became the Web back in March of 1989. The Web turned 25 years old this week and it's hard to imagine an invention or process that has changed our lives as much in recent history, impacting everything from political movements to our love lives.

Alison D. Gilbert's curator insight, March 22, 2014 4:51 PM

For one thing, I hated going to the library. So I am much happier having all the information in books (and more) right at my finger tips, all the time.

The Maker Movement and the Rebirth of Constructionism - Hybrid Pedagogy

The Maker Movement and the Rebirth of Constructionism - Hybrid Pedagogy | Open and Social Education Culture | Scoop.it
The culmination of my quest for more powerful learning grounded in theory and research came when recently I conducted an experiment in pushing constructionism into the digital age.

Constructionism is based on two types of construction. First, it asserts that learning is an active process, in which people actively construct knowledge from their experience in the world. People don’t get ideas; they make them. This aspect of construction comes from the constructivist theory of knowledge development by Jean Piaget. To Piaget’s concept, Papert added another type of construction, arguing that people construct new knowledge with particular effectiveness when they are engaged in constructing personally meaningful products.

Imagine my surprise and joy when I realized that I had arrived at constructionism prior to knowing that such a theory even existed. I believe that thousands of other educators are unknowingly working within the constructionist paradigm as well. Although many within the Maker movement are aware that it has it’s roots in constructionism, the movement is gaining impressive momentum without the majority of Makers realizing that there is a strong theoretical foundation behind their work.

After I came to understand this connection between my practices and the supporting theoretical framework I was better able to focus and refine my practice. Even more importantly, I felt more confident and powerful in forging ahead with further experiments in the learning situations I design for my learners.

Xavier Mas's insight:

Design Thinking with iPads - IPAD 4 SCHOOLS

Design Thinking with iPads - IPAD 4 SCHOOLS | Open and Social Education Culture | Scoop.it
Design thinking is a powerful tool to really get your students thinking about and tackling a problem or topic at a much deeper level. It is a structured task that focuses on giving considerable time to thinking about and empathising with the people within the situation (Target audience or client), designing and prototyping a possible solution that is immediately challenged in order to improve it. It is used much in business and the design industry but can be used as a general classroom task within any subject area. It also gets students to work quickly without much introduction.

Estamos en una época de aceleración y vale la pena repensar estas nuevas formas de comprender estos términos

PIRatE Lab's curator insight, August 10, 2014 6:29 PM

An interesting compilation of terms.  Perhaps most interesting to me is the utter "out of touch" aspect of some of these terms.  Most of very human/wealthy human-centric and are likely to be niche terms at best.  Only the "anthropocene" and "mule" really seem to stretch beyond our wealthy, western lifestyles.  Nevertheless a good read to stimulate your thinking about what the future may bring.

As you can see from the image below, iPadders provided examples of how to use each classroom task according to the different SAMR categories. And in each category, a set of apps and tools are provided to help you carry out the task under study. I invite you to have a look and share with your colleagues. Enjoy"

Ness Crouch's curator insight, February 23, 2014 6:23 PM

I've heard a lot about SMAR but never really taken the time to look into it. It might be time now that I'm looking at integrating more technology into my classroom. This model clearly supports technology and expects the use of it.

Richard Whiteside's curator insight, February 27, 2014 6:42 PM

Explains a lot about how digital tech can help, though on investigation this seems to be a model developed seemingly from nowhere without much academic work behind it. Example of a simple model stating the obvious? Does it matter that it's origins are hazy? Having had the chance to look into it and its creator, it's interesting to note how popular it is and how accepted it is, without much critique. Is it really that great a model?! Just wondering! Raises a lot of questions.
