Kasi Brown was working as an EMT on a set for a commercial in Los Angeles recently when a dangerous stunt went horribly wrong. “This guy who was doing his first ramp jump had to jump over a tractor in downtown L.A.,” she says. “He went up on the ramp 35 feet in the air, and his motorcycle chipped sideways and landed on top of him, narrowly missing the camera crew that was right below.”

Kerwin Young | The Local Show

Julia Irene Kauffman's recent announcement of a $20 million challenge grant to help fund a downtown arts campus was good news for the UMKC Conservatory. Eventually, it should mean that hundreds of students aspiring to careers in music and dance will be spending many of their days and nights in the center city. Students like Kerwin Young. Though at 42, Kerwin has a few years on most of his classmates. What he has also had is a most unusual path to get where he is. While still a teenager in New York City, Kerwin worked with the rap group Public Enemy as part of the Bomb Squad. Now he's studying for his masters degree in composition. We caught up with Kerwin shortly after he had returned from seeing his old pals Chuck D and Flavor Flav inducted into the Rock & Roll Hall of Fame.
