Scaling the Mountaintop | KC Stage Reviews

I have my issues with Katori Hall’s play The
Mountaintop. It’s always dangerous to write about
iconic historical figure. There’s always the danger of
turning what is a human character in a play into a
saint or a beast. Or to put them in situations that
seem absurd.

Unfortunate death turns funny as 'Texas white trash' air dirty laundry in public | examiner.com | OffStage | Scoop.it

A tale of Texas white trash converging for the funeral of a deceased family member brings out the worst in a family mired in more dirt than the daytime soap operas could cleanse, and, of course, laughter follows as their dirty laundry comes forefront as the story unfolds.

“Sordid Lives” at the Barn Players in Mission, Kan. should be rated R, R for ridiculously funny. The play written by Del Shores and directed by Sara Crow opened Friday night. When three sisters plan the funeral of another sister the audience is presented with a mixture of infidelity, country western music, and homophobia, a splash of Thelma and Louise with a twist of a transvestite who believes he is Tammy Wynette.

Insanity & coconuts gallop through KC via Monty Python's Spamalot | examiner.com | OffStage | Scoop.it

It’s irreverent. It’s insane. It’s funny. It’s a big Broadway show. It’s right here this week at Starlight Theatre. It stars two local actors. It’s got huge ticket sales. It’s highly anticipated by Monty Python addicts. It’s timeless. It’s classic. It’s farce. It pokes fun at all previous Broadway shows. It entertains. It follows the story line of Monty Python and the Holy Grail. And, most of all, it entertains the audience. It’s Monty Python’s Spamalot, now playing at Kansas City’s Starlight Theatre until June 6.
