In another round of first times for Kansas City, local community-radio station KKFI 90.1 is hoping to film and broadcast the International Folk Alliance showcase concerts live when the conference goes down February 19-23.

Kansas City’s famous outdoor theatre venue, Starlight Theatre opens its doors to students with two separate opportunities for performing arts students to further their skill base and work with Starlight Theatre and teaching professionals geared to advance the artistic expertise of the young thespians.

Sister Mary Clarence put the fun back in religion in the opening night performance of Sister Act The Musical, a Broadway Across America production, at the Music Hall on Tuesday January 21. Based on the 1992 movie that starred Whoopi Goldberg, the musical features the music of Alan Menken and lyrics of Glenn Slater.

“Shrek: The Musical”, based on the Oscar Winning Dreamworks film, brings the hilarious story of everyone’s favorite ogre to life.  The show will be presented by the Barn Junior actors at the Barn Players Theatre, 6219 Martway in Mission, January 17-26, 2014; Friday and Saturday evenings at 7 p.m. and Sunday matinees at 2 p.m.

Andrew Parkhurst and Michael Grayman first met — and became friends — 15-1/2 years ago on a European tour of West Side Story. Grayman lived in Los Angeles, Parkhurst in New York City, but they kept in touch.

Broadway Across America sparkled and shined when they opened the Kansas City debut of Sister Act on Tues., Jan 21, at the Music Hall in downtown’s Municipal Auditorium to the delight of an enthusiastic standing ovation.
