The 22 Best Writing Tips Ever

The 22 Best Writing Tips Ever | Ken's Odds & Ends | Scoop.it
Looking for the best writing tips? Look no further. Here are the 22 best creative writing tips of all time.
Ken Morrison's insight:
Let go of your inner editor. When you sit down to write a draft, refrain from proofreading until that draft is complete.

Then....

Proofread everything at least three times before submitting..

Also,

Allow yourself to write poorly, to write a weak, uninteresting story or a boring, grammatically incorrect poem. You’ll never succeed if you don’t allow yourself a few failures along the way.You are a writer so own up and say it out loud: “I am a writer.” Whether it’s a hobby or your profession, you have the right to this title.

An Eye on New Media

An Eye on New Media | Ken's Odds & Ends | Scoop.it

Welcome to 'Ken's Odds and Ends'. Click this link to go to my 'real' site.

Let me be the first to tell you that this "Odd's and Ends' site is not a polished Scoop.it Page. It is the 'waiting room' or 'overflow room' for my primary Scoop.it page which you can find here:
http://www.scoop.it/t/new-media-technology

The focus of that site is New Media in Society, Business & Classrooms

This site reflects those interests as well as some other scoops that don't fit directly into nice little boxes under the 'new media' umbrella.

Ken Morrison's insight:

I am trying to streamline my primary site.  Oddz and Endz is kind of an overflow of this original site but will have content that doesn't fit into nice little  boxes under the 'New Media' flag

Map of Contemporaries

The history of the world in famous people’s lifespans.

John Dalziel's curator insight, June 3, 2017 4:02 AM
Map of Contemporaries is an interactive visual that chronicles the history of the world through the lifespans of famous people.
For many of us, History is a giant collective tangle of thousands of interwoven stories involving millions of characters, countless chapters, and many, many narrators.
Map of Contemporaries provides a "Flipped History" resource where, rather than teaching history by highlighting the "major events", the Map of Contemporaries targets different historical figures and through them an overview of the major events that marked their era.
Different Educational Courses can use the Map of Contemporaries to search for famous people by content area (e.g., arts, music, religion, science…etc) and by their place of birth.
Once users locate the filtered historical figures, clicking on their name, provides access to Wikipedia pages with more details.
The Map of Contemporaries provides a fresh perspective on our history, unlike the conventional “vertical” approach of who came after whom and what happened after what.
NOTE: The timeline uses the data set from Pantheon, which is a project from the Macro Connections group at The MIT Media Lab.
They provide an excellent list of 15,343 historical figures each marked with a Historical Popularity Index (HPI) that helps us to show the most famous people at the top of the timeline.
Well worth a closer look, even if you don't teach History!

Eurasia Group | SHOCKWAVES - 25 Years out from the Soviet Collapse | Ken's Odds & Ends | Scoop.it
ON DECEMBER 25, 1991, an exhausted Mikhail Gorbachev sat down at a table before the lens of a single television camera and informed his people they were living in a new world. He resigned as Soviet president, wished his people the best, shuffled the papers before him, and waited for aides to signal that he was off the air. A day later, the Soviet Union was over.
