Perverse, cruel, self-defeating, unjust: these terms could legitimately be used to describe a whole raft of Government policies.
Lindsey Sorrell's insight:

There are so many other things the Government could tax, and get more, that I think it is absolute cruelty to continually pick on the poor, elderly and disabled people.  They are being hit from all sides when they are already struggling to make ends meet and this is affecting the health of these people.  People have already died,  How many more must die before the Government sit up and realize what they are doing?  Or is it that they just don't care, as long as it doesn't affect them in any way?
