"and its the reason why we are going to win" the last thing Michael says in this video. And i am holding that statement, that "we" as referring to the 100%. Not an us vs. them, rather, as human beings all together we are going to win. "the 1% needs us". yes and we them. united. all together now.

Generation Threat: Why the Youth of America Are Occupying the Nation Logos

Excellent background of the sixties, and differences now:

How then do we begin to unpack the current context? What factors have propelled this Occupy movement into being? How might on-lookers better understand the movement’s defining issues and core participants? How can sympathizers best support and connect to Occupy? And how might older Americans resist the blinders of age and life-stage so as to avoid finding themselves on the sidelines, immobilized by fear or grief, or maybe feeling just a little ashamed for having waited so long to wade in?

Privileged people behaved consistently worse than others in a range of situations, with a greater tendency to lie, cheat, take things meant for others, cut up other road users, not stop for pedestrians on crossings, and endorse unethical behaviour, researchers found.

Occupiers Target 'Mayor 1% Emanuel's' Anti-Protest Ordinance | Occupy Everything | Scoop.it

In fact, Emanuel said his proposal to dramatically increase fines for protesters who resist arrest - even passively - should be permanent. Some of the other sweeping powers the mayor is seeking - one would allow his office to unilaterally approve some city contracts - would expire once the May summits are over, he said.

Shareable: A (Very Very) Brief History of Occupation Tactics

Shareable: A (Very Very) Brief History of Occupation Tactics | Occupy Everything | Scoop.it

By now, most people know that ‘Occupation’ as a tactic was not invented by 2000 of us at Zuccotti park on September 17. There is, at last, more widespread knowledge of the Indignado movement which began this summer in Spain, and its concurrent, and much more powerful anti-government movement in Greece. In fact, as histories of OWS proliferate, people recognize that much of our structure, including much of General Assembly procedure, was based on

The Scale of the Challenge is Shocking Us into Action

The Scale of the Challenge is Shocking Us into Action | Occupy Everything | Scoop.it

One final thought, sparked by all that coverage of Meryl Streep's role in the soon-to-be-released Thatcher biopic, The Iron Lady. In the 1980s, we simply shouted "Maggie out", as if that was going to be enough; now, almost every activist I meet well knows that their priority is not to add to the thin noise of Westminster politics, but to highlight failures that are truly systemic.

Rebecca Solnit, Occupy Your Heart | TomDispatch

Rebecca Solnit, Occupy Your Heart | TomDispatch | Occupy Everything | Scoop.it

In the U.S., failure is always supposed to be individual, not systemic, and so it tends to produce a sense of personal devastation that leaves its victims feeling alone and lying low, even though they are among legions of others. The people who destroyed our economy through their bottomless greed are, on the other hand, shameless -- as shameless as the CEOs whose compensation shot up 36% in 2010, during this deep and grinding recession. Compassion is definitely not their currency.

It is only now, thanks to the Occupy Movement, that another language has appeared on US streets and campuses. To see students with banners that say ‘Class War’ or ‘We don’t mind you being rich, but we mind you buying our government’ is, given the odds, almost a revolution in itself.

Abandoning Democracy | Communities Collaborating Institute Online

Leaders, in democratic countries, abandon the fundamental basis of democratic principles, processes and practices at their peril. While it might provide a modicum of security in the short term; over the longer term their control will be challenged and their leadership ended to their own chagrin.

The fledgling occupy movement, which was quickly squashed, is an indication that people are not yet willing to sacrifice their freedom and democracy. They have found their voice, now they need to find a form and build a foundation to take their power back from those who have hijacked it for ideologically purposes.

Mad, Passionate Love -- and Violence: Occupy Heads into the Spring | Occupy Everything | Scoop.it

These genuine gains come thanks to relatively modest exercises of popular power. They should act as reminders that we do have power and that its exercise can be popular. Some of last fall’s exhilarating conversations have faltered, but the great conversation that is civil society awake and arisen hasn’t stopped.

What happens now depends on vigorous participation, including yours, in thinking aloud together about who we are, what we want, and how we get there, and then acting upon it. Go occupy the possibilities and don’t stop pedaling. And remember, it started with mad, passionate love.

Occupy vs. Nihilism: All or Nothing at All

Occupy vs. Nihilism: All or Nothing at All | Occupy Everything | Scoop.it

The hidden meaning of Occupy may involve an instinctive response to the threat of nihilism and the rise of emptiness; it may be a collective attempt to find the heart and soul of America again. Not "occupy" as a single-minded political statement, but the soulful sense of occupying life in ways that return meaning and justice, truth and beauty to the lives of individuals and communities, to institutions and practices that are after all intended to serve the people. Occupy may be an instinctive vehicle for making life in its diverse and surprising forms more valuable and meaningful again.
