Priest

Priest | Nun's Priest's Prologue and Tale | Scoop.it

A priest is one who makes the sacrifices, performs the rituals and acts as mediator between man and God. This means that he is responsible for offering the divinely appointed sacrifices to God, for executing the different procedures and ceremonies relating to the worship of God, and for being a representative between God and man.

The first was to minister in the sanctuary, which at this time was the tabernacle, but when Israel became a settled nation it would be the temple.Secondly, priests were responsible for teaching the people the law of God, andThirdly, when God's will was sought for the nation, it was the priests who prayed for guidance.

Chaucer

Chaucer | Nun's Priest's Prologue and Tale | Scoop.it

Chaucer had described the nun’s Priest’s has a poor man on a horse that was not well off. He asked him to tell a happy story because he was sick of the depressing ones. He said that maybe the Priest could pretend his life was good and make up a happy tale. The Priest was not a rich man and did not have the best life, but in my opinion that’s how he was told to live. He lives up to how he was supposed to act according to my research. He wasn’t rich because he gave what he had to people in need and to gods work.

The Story

The Story | Nun's Priest's Prologue and Tale | Scoop.it

This story is about a roster Chanticleer that had a dream about being killed by another animal.

When he told his favorite lover Pertelote she told him that he should be ashamed that he had feared a silly dream and that it was nothing more than his imagination and a stomach ache. Then after she told him that a side story starts about two brothers. The first brother dreamed that his brother was being murdered when he awoke he thought it was just a silly dream and went back to bed. He woke up three more times because of that dream but the last dream he had was his brother telling him that he was dead and laying in a cart full of manure. That morning the first brother walked to his brother’s home to tell him about that dream and his brother wasn’t home. He walked to the place that his brother had talked about in the dream to the cart and found is brother murdered just as his dream had said.

Now the story brings us back to Chanticleer. Later on that day he was singing and a fox comes from the distance. This frightened Chanticleer and he stepped back. The fox says that he was not going to hurt him that he only wished to hear him sing. Chanticleer was proud of his songs to he started to sing. The fox leaped at him and drug him into the woods intending on killing him. Once the fox let go for a second, Chanticleer leaped from his grip and into a tree. The fox said that Chanticleer had misunderstood what he was doing that he wanted others to hear his songs. Chanticleer stayed up in the tree saying you can fool me once and shame on me but fool me twice and shame on me. I think this story shows that dreams aren’t always silly but can have some kind of meaning.
