ENPPS 2012 Memories: EUROPEAN NUCLEAR POWER PLANT SIMULATION FORUM 2012, 3 & 4

ENPPS 2012 Memories: EUROPEAN NUCLEAR POWER PLANT SIMULATION FORUM 2012, 3 & 4 | Nuclear Energy Simulation | Scoop.it

Barcelona, the city of Gaudi, the city of Messi, but on October 3 & 4 2012 Barcelona was the city of the first European Nuclear Power Plant Simulation Forum.

It all started back in London, speaking to one of our sponsors there, Michael Chatlani from L-3 MAPPS, the topic came up. Getting a good feel for the world of nuclear power plant simulation, we decided to organize and host an event on Nuclear Power Plant Simulation in Europe.

After extensive research and feedback from key persons in the simulator industry we created our European Nuclear Power Plant Simulation Forum 2012 to be held in the beautiful city of Barcelona.Over 70 experts in the simulator industry (vendors, utilities, regulators and research institutes) joined us in Barcelona for two days to discuss the latest developments in the industry. The latest technologies, projects, codes, 3D visualization and simulation, strategies and focus points for the present and future were presented and demonstrated by an excellent speaker line-up. This all took place in the beautiful and accommodating 5-star venue of the Barcelona Pullman Skipper Hotel.

There were presentations from key vendors in the industry (L-3 MAPPS, Tecnatom, Western Services Corporation, Corys T.E.S.S., ISS), utilities (EDF, EDF Energy), research institutes (IRSN, University of Pisa, Technical University of Catalonia), the IAEA and more. On day 2 we concluded the Forum with a very impressive and interactive panel discussion about Severe Accident Simulation, one of the key present and future focus areas for the industry. The panel was chaired by Prof. Francesc Reventos from the Technical University of Catalonia and panelists were Robert Boire from L-3 MAPPS, Pablo Rey from Tecnatom, Oussama Ashy from WSC and Chris Allison from ISS.

During the coffee and networking breaks, attendees were networking with our sponsors and exhibitors and amongst themselves in the exhibitor area. Those were great opportunities to get demonstrations of latest technologies, talk business and enjoy a drink and snack. The Forum, the first of its kind in Europe has been a great success and was moderated and chaired in an excellent way by Mr. Michael Chatlani, VP Marketing & Sales from our Lead Sponsor L-3 MAPPS.

Based on all the feedback forms we received, it seems there was a real need for a platform like this in Europe and has given us something to build on. We have created the basis for a regularly returning European event.

With the help and commitment from our sponsors and speakers and the feedback, interest and need for information shown by the attendees we will be working towards our 2nd annual Forum next year and hope to create an even better event.I would like to thank all our sponsors: L-3 MAPPS, Tecnatom, Western Services Corporation, ISS, Corys T.E.S.S., GSE, CM Labs, Nuclear AMRC, Invensys Operations Management, for their support and belief to make this event a success.

Also a special thanks to our speakers and delegates who made the effort to be part of this Forum and helped us to create the basis for the next successful European Nuclear Power Plant Simulation Forums to come.

NRG Events's insight:

This year we are back with the latest trends in the industry. Nuclar Simulation for training is never been that important before!

China: Nuclear Simulation, Safety & Regulation Developments Forum - 20th & 21st June 2013 Beijing

China: Nuclear Simulation, Safety & Regulation Developments Forum - 20th & 21st June 2013 Beijing | Nuclear Energy Simulation | Scoop.it

On 20 & 21 June 2013 NRG will organize the ´Nuclear Developments in China Forum 2013´ in the capital city of Beijing. The focus points of the event will be Training & Simulation, Safety Analysis and Regulation. These are some of the most important areas in the Chinese nuclear industry at the moment, since China is one of the few countries in the world firmly committed to rapidly expanding the use of nuclear power.

While much of the world is debating the contentious question of whether to have a nuclear program, China has made up its mind. Indeed, 40 percent of the nuclear reactors under construction in the world (26 out of 63) are located in China, where a combination of rationales — energy security and diversity, climate change mitigation and building a “nuclear hedge” — have been used to endorse the drive to go nuclear.

The event will bring together the major players in the Chinese Nuclear Industry. Major utilities, vendors, research institutes and regulatory bodies will be presenting and attending case studies about the latest nuclear developments in China. Sponsors will present their latest services and solutions in an exhibitor area, which will provide attendees with an excellent opportunity for networking, benchmarking and exchanging business information.

According to a Chinese nuclear official China’s nuclear power installed capacity will hit 42 gigawatts by 2015, accounting for 10 percent of the world’s total.
