Lichfield and Staffordshire councils back social care app | Nominet Trust

By Ben Whitelaw

Two councils have formally backed the launch of a new application named Patchwork that enables social care staff to establish who is involved in a case and invite others to investigate if they spot a relevant issue.

Lichfield district council and Staffordshire county council provided £280,000 for the development of the app by FutureGov, a local government change consultancy. Lichfield included the launch in its Let's Work Together programme, and further support was provided by the Improvement and Efficiency Partnership West Midlands, Nominet Trust and the National Endowment for Science, Technology and the Arts (Nesta).

Having started out researching child protection in Westminster, we developed a prototype app with Lichfield and Staffordshire Councils which has now also been rolled out to Brighton and Hove City Council. None of which could have been possible without our investors NESTA, Nominet Trust and Staffordshire County Council and partners.

An innovative app hopes to help child protection agencies and support organisations to keep a better eye on the bigger picture
The world of child protection is extremely complex and challenging – and numerous public sector agencies are involved at any given time. One small slip-up can end in tragedy. And that is something that has unfortunately happened time and time again.

Now, a new internet-based project is aiming to enable each support organisation to better understand the life of a child and the involvement of those who ensure their safety.
