Marian Locksley's insight:

The Catlin Seaview Survey, sponsored by international specialty property/casualty insurer and reinsurer Catlin Group Limited today announced a significant expansion of its study of coral reefs with a new campaign in the Caribbean and Bermuda.

Catlin explained that the programme — which will significantly widen opportunities for ocean, coral and climate scientists to understand the changes occurring within the region — starts in Belize and moves on to Mexico, Anguilla, St. Vincent, Guadeloupe, Turks and Caicos and the Bahamas in the coming months.

The Catlin Seaview Survey will also explore the coral reefs off Bermuda in September.

The Catlin scientific survey will undertake the most comprehensive survey yet of the state of the region's reefs, starting in Belize and moving on to Mexico, Anguilla, Barbuda, St Lucia, Turks & Caicos, Florida and Bermuda.

#DolphinStranding Linked to #HearingLoss ~ hope we're listening to their call #TurnDownTheNoise pollution | Rescue our Ocean's & it's species from Man's Pollution! | Scoop.it

A new study found that over half of stranded bottlenose dolphins and more than a third of stranded rough-toothed dolphins suffer from hearing loss. Whether hearing loss causes the stranding or is related in some other way is not yet known.

Marian Locksley's insight:

Dolphins use echolocation to orient themselves in their surroundings and to communicate with other members of their pod. Because of this, an inability to hear properly could contribute to a higher rate of stranding.
