How American Music has Changed over the Past 50 Years by Sean Curtis | Life Paths 360

How American Music has Changed over the Past 50 Years by Sean Curtis | Life Paths 360 | North and South America and Asia | Scoop.it
Over the past fifty years, American music has undergone some radical changes. Styles, sounds, genres, and technology have all pushed forward. We are in a different place than fifty years
HammerPosh's insight:

I decided to use this article because it explains much more than what it is intended to explain. As soon as the author of this article started talking about the radical changes of music and how specific it is today, it makes me look back and think about how amazing music was in the 60's 70's etc... But that doesn't make me over look our generations music. The history of music has really changed quite a bit, in both a positive way and a negative way. Music today is like a curse in a way, it is amazing how there are so many different genres of music, but theres the that little Genie tweek. All of the different types of music makes everyone so picky about music because there is a big difference between electronic music and dubstep.

Essential Question: What do you think about our generations music? Do YOU think over the past years of music evolving, has it turned into garbage?

Afghan presidential election 2014 - the big issues

Afghan presidential election 2014 - the big issues | North and South America and Asia | Scoop.it
AFGHANISTAN PRESIDENTIAL ELECTION 2014 - Whoever wins Afghanistan's 2014 presidential election will have more problems to solve than the average president. One of the poorest and most corrupt...
HammerPosh's insight:

Political

Big swing at the face of Afghanistan, being called the most corrupt country world wide, considering their ethnic rivalries and religious conflicts going on, this new presidential election may be a very difficult one to answer. As well considering that they are a very radical country, they will possibly be looking for a president who will strongly follow in the countries religious beliefs.

EQ: Considered to be the most corrupt country in the world, what could you infer about who they may be looking for as their future president?

Making Color 3D

Making Color 3D | North and South America and Asia | Scoop.it
Pioneering Venezuelan artist Carlos Cruz-Diez has built his career on light, making immersive installations that allow visitors to explore color in three dimensions
HammerPosh's insight:

I Decided to choose this article because it shows the simplicity of art and how easily it can become so much more than just a couple random colors. Like this immersive building installed with two simple colors, black and blue and the outcome of the two colors, yellow. Now you may wonder how you get yellow from two such colors. Thats the thing, its art. That's how simple it is.

Essential Question: Do you think you can do this with any other two colors? And if you could which colors would you pick?

ROME (RNS) Among the Latin Americans flocking to Rome, the pope's fellow Argentines are leading the way, with 66 percent more people traveling from the pope’s homeland compared to a year ago.
HammerPosh's insight:

We decided to choose this article because it represents how easily that religion could diffuse around the world and to other countries. With the increasing boom of tourism in Rome from the people in Latin America it can possibly help the religion spread even further around the world

EQ: Do you think that in the next 1 year that Rome can double their percentage of tourist from Latin America?

Two more dead in Venezuelan streets as protests continue | North and South America and Asia | Scoop.it
A Venezuelan soldier and a motor cyclist were killed in a standoff with opposition demonstrators who had set up a barricade along an avenue of Caracas, the vice president of the ruling Socialist Party said on Thursday.
HammerPosh's insight:

I chose this article because it shows how their government may be corrupt in ways and that it shows how the citizens of Venezuela are trying to take action, but just not in a peaceful manner as how they should if they want to get rid of the President of Venezuela.

EQ: How do you think these violent acts may affect Venezuelan government in the long run?

Iranians React To Nuclear Deal On Social Media
NPR
When Iran's foreign minister confirmed a landmark nuclear deal, he made the announcement via Twitter. Most Iranians have a hard time accessing Twitter freely.
HammerPosh's insight:

I picked this article because it shows the evolution of politics. Back in the day some people would have a very hard time staying up to date on politcs and it might take weeks for something like this to reach smaller towns. Now, thanks to social media, everyone has access to the politics around them and even if it is hard to get to, only one person has to get to twitter and read this post and the whole town will know about it.

EQ: Should all governments "tweet" what is going on and let their people freely see these tweets? Should their be a specific website that is like facebook for governments?

Forever Cemetery - Dia de Los Muertos Celebration
HammerPosh's insight:

Although Halloween has already passed, I thought that I should pick this website because it tells the importance of the mexican tradition of "Dia de Los Muertos" meaning the day of the dead. This caught my interest because it is a three day time period that celebrates the deceased loved ones and all the things that the family members love about them.

Essential Question: Do you think that the USA should do something similart to this on Halloween? What do you think about Dia De Los Muertos.

Economic

This article is about the consumption of one of Tokyo's district shopping centers. More specifically with this tax consumption increase in Tokyo, it will and possibly can shrink Tokyo's GDP by 4.1%. Thus creating a GDP fall within the zones. Some particular zones will carry out ambitious deregulations.

EQ: Looking back on what you read, do you think that this GDP fall could really hurt Tokyo?

HammerPosh's insight:

Religion

So the topic of this article hits the religious beliefs of some of the Pakistanis hard. Pakistani police had registered a blasphemy case against 68 lawyers who have been protesting for human rights defense. As they protest one human rights lawyer was shot by a gunmen, this creating a bigger problem for the police officials and the protesters.

Purring Monkey? Flamboyant Lizard? New Amazonian Species Are Totally Wild | North and South America and Asia | Scoop.it
More than 400 shiny new species, ones completely unknown to science, have turned up in the Amazon rain forest, according to the latest report from the WWF.
HammerPosh's insight:

I decided to pick this article because it talks about how much of the world that we as humans have not yet discovered. Like all of these exotic animals that we have just now recently discovered. Even in the ocean we haven't fully discovered the deep depths of it so we still can't say that there are no such things as mermaids.

Essential Question: What else do you think there is to discover? Do you have any idea of what there may be?

Brazil revellers celebrate the first day of carnival - Telegraph | North and South America and Asia | Scoop.it
Hundreds of revellers from around the world dressed up as Carmelite nuns to celebrate the first day of Carnival in Rio de Janeiro
HammerPosh's insight:

I decided to choose this article because it shows not only Brazil's intellectual arts but how entertaining that they can be as well! With the beat of the drum to the fascinating costumes and floats, similar to the nun float and the grown man dressed as a nun dancing to the beat of the pounding drum and the crowds scream.

Essential Question: According to what you have seen in the video, do you think that we should have something similar to this, go all out and celebrate it in town as one huge family?

Organization promoting religious freedom plans to deploy atheist billboards
Fox News
An organization that promotes the separation of church and state plans to deploy more than 50 billboards in the Sacramento, Calif.
HammerPosh's insight:

I picked this article because it interesting how Atheists are trying to assert themselves this holiday season and express their beliefs in a civilized manner on such a sensitive topic between religion and state. I believe this is good for Atheist people, but sort of underminds the holiday season, to give and receive and to be happy and while they do not believe in churches and gods, not all of these holidays have to do with churches.

EQ:Do you believe Atheism is a growing "religion"(for lack of better word)? Should there be a non-religious christmas that is celerated as a national holiday to keep the holiday cheer for ALL people of ALL beliefs?

Newsroom : Ontario - First Place in North America to End Coal-Fired Power | North and South America and Asia | Scoop.it
Ontario is one step closer to being the first place in North America to eliminate coal as a source of electricity generation.
HammerPosh's insight:

We liked this article because Ontario is big city in not just Canada, but the whole of North America. For it to cut out coal as its main source of energy meana a lot towards the future because if their plan works, many cities will follow. This is a big step so that we will have cleaner, more "green" countries.
