Nom de Plume literally means “name of the pen” or pen name, it is characterised by an author “taking a name” to publish his or her work. The taking of a name and the use of Nom de Plumes has been going on for centuries and is still happening in today’s modern society. There are many reasons for an author to take a pen name from a preference for a different name, to distance themselves from their work or from other work they have published or because of their gender.
