awesome teaching and learning tool!

Melanie Faizer's curator insight, March 10, 2014 9:57 PM

Zeega.com is a great example of storytelling through aggregating and curating, and in addition, embedded, automated attribution. It removes much of the burden of copyright. From a storytelling perspective, it has limitless possibilities, but one of the challenges is finding that story worth telling. Some Zeega examples are beautifully executed; too many are (from a journalistic perspective) one-dimensional in their execution and not thought-provoking. We are still new at curating content, and it shows. Curating is another form of narrating: the story still needs a point, a trajectory.

11 Must Have iPad Apps for Teachers and Students ~ Educational Technology and Mobile Learning | NewTICE | Scoop.it

"Today while I was lounging in Victoria Park, I took my iPad and started thumbing around through the apps I have. I was really surprised to find out that I have many apps installed but only some are being used on a regular basis. So it dawned on me to compile a list of some "must have" apps  that teachers should have access to. All of these apps are great for organizational tasks such as :  task management, bookmarking, note-taking...and media storage.

Formation à distance : m-learning, rapid learning ou social learning ?

Formation à distance : m-learning, rapid learning ou social learning ? | NewTICE | Scoop.it

7 Things Teachers Need to Know about The Relation between The Brain and Learning ~ Educational Technology and Mobile Learning

7 Things Teachers Need to Know about The Relation between The Brain and Learning ~ Educational Technology and Mobile Learning | NewTICE | Scoop.it

The core concept behind effective instruction is differentiation and adaptation particularly now that technology and digital media is taking over every facet of our life. Being able and ready to adapt your teaching methods to your students emerging learning needs is the key to a successful teaching career. Adaptation requires  thinking analytically about what goes on when students are engaged in learning. Some get the point so rapidly without the need for exhaustive explanations but others are slow learners and call for longer time.

Future Models of Learning - Debate

Future Models of Learning - Debate | NewTICE | Scoop.it

Does new technology conflict with or complement established teaching and learning? What is the impact on the teaching profession as we have traditionally known it? Will the power of the internet, with new innovations such as Massive Open Online Courses (MOOCs), create an unstoppable ‘avalanche’ of education reform, or are these reforms a false revolution? Can the value of face-to-face quality learning and student-teacher relationships ever really be questioned, at any level of education? Will the class room, lecture theatre, and traditional notion of education space – schools and universities – be usurped by a screen, online and distance learning, or alternative spaces such as the workplace, home, or concert-hall?

It should complement. Art and the French language provide a word for what should happen: bricolage. Bricolage is the blending of two materials, in this case traditional and new pedagogy, in ways that might infuse them. A philosophical approach might to use Gadamer and Vico to discuss sensus communis which is the common sense of a community based on wisdom and creativity.

The format is interesting as it is similar to a Ethnograhic Futures Research format gone viral.

5 Free Online Image Editors for Rapid E-Learning

5 Free Online Image Editors for Rapid E-Learning | NewTICE | Scoop.it

A challenge with free software is that sometimes your organization isn’t comfortable with you downloading and installing applications that aren’t approved. This is where the online graphics applications come in handy. Of course, you’ll need an internet connection and hope that your organization isn’t blocking its use.

If you do a search, you’ll find that there are a lot of online image editing products. The problem is that many are spammy or full of ads that they’re useless for real work.

In today’s post we’ll look at five very capable online image editors. I tried to stay clear of the ones that were too ad heavy or seemed kind of spammy. I only added the apps I’d be comfortable using for my own work.

5 Best Practices for Incorporating Games into Training Courses

Engaging and motivating your learners can be achieved through successfully gamifiying your e-Learning course. But just adding any game into your course may not benefit your learning at all; in fact, it could steer away from the key messages you are trying to portray. There are many aspects to consider when incorporating a game into your online training to guarantee that your course will not only engage your learners but also motivate them to learn.
