PGDM 2016-18 Interim placement Report | NewsPR

PGDM 2016-18 Interim placement Report | NewsPR | NewsPr | Scoop.it
Strong growth in PGDM placements in 2017, at end of Placement week. With year-on-year growth in placements, Goa Institute of Management (GIM) is known to better its best. This year looks no different: GIM is again poised to script a strong ending to its PGDM placement initiative. Marquee companies like McKinsey, EY, JP Morgan & Chase, Amazon, GEP, ITC, Reckitt Benckiser, Kraft Heinz, United Breweries, Nestle, Gartner, and Philips Lighting (to mention a few, in no particular order) have already hired from PGDM Batch 2016–18. In addition to 34 old / existing companies, this year 18 new companies have already visited the campus and made offers to the students (numbers relate to only final placement and not companies who had offered PPO / PPI). Separately, PPOs have seen a steep rise of 78%, with current 41 as against the previous year’s 23. Alongside IT / ITES and BFSI sectors, companies from Consulting and FMCG / FMCD domains have increased their footprints this year. With 20 LPA as the highest salary so far, a quick look at the average numbers: top 20 students – 15.72 LPA; top 50 students – 13.75 LPA; and top 100 students – 11.83 LPA. While 52.48% students have received offers above 10 LPA, the average salary is around 10.61 LPA. Commenting on the placement trend at GIM this year, Professor Venkatesh Naga D, Placement Head, shares, “The trend is both positive and encouraging. The industry seems to appreciate the talent pool at GIM. They have shown eagerness to strengthen the collaboration to attract talent in their recruitment drives in future. ” The high level of interest points to GIM’s constant focus on diversity, pedagogy, and curriculum led by innovative programs like Give Goa and Campus Connect. GIM’s competitive edge is also enhanced through prestigious international linkages and Centers of Excellence that focus on research, social sensitivity, creativity, and entrepreneurship. Significantly GIM is among 13 institutes (out of 3048 applications) chosen by NITI Aayog to set up the Atal Incubation Centre. With the recruitment drive in full swing, there is every indication that placements for the current year should scale a higher notch and sustain the year-on-year growth.

Seeing though the global lens- Hindu School of Architecture students spent a day with Dr. Nezar AlSayyad of UC Berkeley | NewsPR

Dr. Nezar AlSayyad, Professor of Architecture, Planning, Urban Design and Urban History from UC Berkeley visited Hindu School of Architecture on 16th December, 2017 and engaged the students over a riveting session around “History in Urbanism.” Dr. AlSayyad started his talk by bringing home a beautiful concept- “the world is all about your frame of mind!” Being the renowned academician in Architecture, Dr. AlSayyad derives his inspiration by traveling across the geography- and his visit to India has seen him travel avidly from the desert to the hills, the plateau to the forests, everywhere! It is based on his vast experience; he encouraged the young architects of Hindu School of Architecture (HSA) to take the advantage of the strategic location of the school and try think of how to make every small or big space meaningful for the world. “Architecture was fundamentally meant to uplift the poor and middle class section of the society. However, that message got eventually lost in the rat race of the 21st century and architecture became a predatory profession- a profession that started serving the interest of the client at the expense of general public and ordinary people,” elaborates Dr. AlSayyad thoughtfully. His talk brought home the idea as to just how important Ethics as a concept is- for architects to imbibe. He further sheds light on how HSA and all architecture students need to be extremely careful about striking the right balance across “physical, social, environmental and economical sustainability.” Dotted with anecdotes, Dr. Nezar AlSayyad’s talk became even more interesting when he urged the audience to think and ask themselves- “to what extent can you migrate to influence your design?” He explains how the usage of instruments can limit one’s way of thinking and creativity. Therefore, it becomes extremely important to “free yourself from the fetters of instruments and give room to imaginations.” While the acclaimed professor of Architecture draws his inspiration from the places he travels, he also thinks that films and movies are a great way of learning about the world and gathering information. “Do keep your eyes on what you see in the backdrop of the subjects,” and indeed, that can broaden the scope of young architects’ mind to a great extent. However, how does talk like these help young architects develop broader perspectives around the subject of Architecture? “With initiatives such as these where we get to hear from global faculty, we get the chance to see how architects operate in other countries. We get to literally hear from the horse’s mouth about the global practices and pick important insights of the global industry,” says Bhanupriya Sharma of 3rd year, B.Arch., Hindu School of Architecture.

Why “Being an Architect” is one of the lucrative professions today!

Dr. Rashmi Ashtt, Principal – Director, Hindu School of Architecture, Sonipat is a highly respected and much awarded name in the world of Architecture and Urban Planning.

The PhD. holder in Urban Planning under University Grants Commission has over two decades of experience in the field and has worked on more than 100 projects. In a conversation with Dr. Ashtt, she explains why more and more students are opting to build formidable career in Architecture, with each passing year- A gigantic world- waiting to be shaped up The U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistics (BLS) anticipated jobs for architects to increase 7% from 2014 to 2024.

The world might do away with information technologists, accountants, consultants, lawyers or media strategists, but how can it not want infrastructure? There has never been, never will be a dip in demand for Architects- as long as civilization exists.

You need hospitals, bridges, homes, offices, factories, schools, roads, airports, banks and what not! Unless there are people to design or plan them, how will the world turn its rounds. Architecture is a profession that allows endless room for creativity In May 2015, the median annual salary of architects, except landscape and naval architects, was $76,100, according to the BLS. India has been seeing a steady rise of female professionals entering the space, gradually. The number of women architects has increased in the past 5 years from 34% to 40%.

Reason being, the profession is not just safe from gender point of view but gives tremendous respect to creative thinking. As the popular saying goes, “architecture is a fine combination of Art and Science.” Architects are getting paid handsomely, everywhere While developed nations have giant companies recruiting young and dynamic architects straight from their Architecture School, India and other developed nations are showing equal promise in terms of placements.

The average CTC a Bachelor in Architecture (B.Arch.) draws in India, even as a complete fresher is approximately 2.5 lacs p.a. The industry is gradually recognizing the kind of freshness young professionals are bringing to the profession and are thereby seeking to hire them from reputed Architecture schools of the country. Hindu School of Architecture witnessed almost 20+ companies hiring young architects across various profiles in a year. Architecture is a glamorous profession An architect’s importance in the world history has always been undeniable. If you are meaning to pursue architecture from a reputed school, you will be forged through a very rigorous curriculum that would stretch for 5 years prior to your receiving a degree in B.Arch. from the Council of Architecture (COA), India. Your curriculum will expose you to a global breadth with understanding of international standards.

This in turn helps you in networking with expert architects from all across the world; often giving you opportunities to intern with some of the leading architectural firms of India and overseas. Adding to all of it is the charm of always being on top of materials, form, massing, lighting, history, origin, etc.- no matter which building/ city you visit- you always know it all! You can be your own boss as an Architect today With the whole biuzz around start-ups in India, an architect is probably one such human being who is best fit to start his/her own endeavor at any point in time in life. You do not always need “A” projects to outshine others. Even smaller projects can help you kick-start your independent career as your own boss. You can enter contests and win commissions for major projects by yourself- or with smaller teams.

Finally Justice Done says K.Siva Prasad, IAS

Finally Justice is done says relieved K. Siva Prasad who was exonerated of any wrong doing by the highest authorities of Country, both Supreme Court of India and Prime Minister of India. The PMO recently dropped all the charges against K.Siva Prasad, IAS after it was found that he was falsely implicated. PMO relied on the detailed enquiry conducted by CVC which  exonerated K. Siva Prasad, IAS. CVC summoned all the record pertaining to the case and examined all the people who are involved in the entire process. It took note of the fact that false records were created by certain officials on the instruction of the then minister and the same were used against K. Siva Prasad, Punjab cadre IAS officer. Separately, Punjab and Haryana High Court quashed all the cases registered by CBI and ruled that Case has been initiated without any legal basis nor foundation and K. Siva Prasad, IAS has been unjustifiably subjected to undeserving prosecution by CBI.

High Court further  observed in a detailed order that Grave injustice has been caused to K. Siva prasad IAS the then GM, FCI, Punjab who made all out effort to introduce a novel system to arrest the corrupt practices, which has completely halted the practice of mixing substandard bags with good quality of rice and the remarks of CMD about integrity of K.Siva Prasad, IAS has virtually fallen to deaf years. A three judge Supreme Court bench dismissed the appeal filed by CBI against the order of Punjab and Haryana High Court quashing CBI cases against K. Siva Prasad, IAS as Hon’ble Supreme Court apparently found that the issues raised in the CBI arguments were properly discussed by Punjab and Haryana High Court which found that there is merit in these issues. After 10 years of bitter struggle and humiliation, Siva Prasad feels that these are perils  of working in the Indian Administrative Service (IAS).

He feels that apart from maintaining highest integrity, Civil Servants should cultivate the habit of recording the reasons for taking a particular decision as these decisions can be questioned when circumstances change. Only a reasoned order can sustain scrutiny of investigating agencies and judiciary. He said that his own episode reinforces his conviction that bonafide decisions will stand test of time. He agrees that ten years is a long period to sustain such kind of pressure but he believes that it should be for a reason. Many of his colleagues were happy to hear about his exoneration.

Some of them were of the opinion that officers are left to defend themselves when such situations come- which is part of life of a civil servant, but Siva Prasad shown courage to face this situation and this needs to be emulated by others. Another officer elaborated that officers working involves taking decisions and not all will be happy to the decision. Anyone adversely affected by the officer's decision will try to file a complaint to show his unjustified resentment which gives officers sleepless nights.
