The .PSD Show

The .PSD Show | New Sensibile. | Scoop.it

Online exhibition with PSD Adobe Photoshop file as medium.

"Adobe Photoshop is now the vernacular of contemporary images. New technologies have significantly shifted photographic practice, broadening the scope of its developmental potential and vocabulary. These changes foster a space in which graphics editing software becomes the constitutive means of production for contemporary images. The .PSD Show engages this discourse in its native tongue; exploring the digital image in its raw and immaterial state. As a culture whose communication is increasingly image based, we are obliged to explore such a program and see what activity occurs there -- so let's talk Shop.

The .PSD Show is a growing conversation among Photoshop users; a community of artists, photographers, retouchers and technicians; spanning the gamut from professional to amateur. The abbreviation .PSD refers to the file extension used to designate a Photoshop Document. Each participating artist has contributed an original .PSD file specially commissioned for this project. These files are freely available for download and can be opened for use in Adobe Photoshop.

The .PSD Show is an online exhibition organized by Joshua Citarella in 2012."

'Synthesis of the day' by Mo-Tif.

Synthesis of the day #7 (in movement).

Images from the 7th are being synthesized trough time.

Synthesis of the day is a daily series in which I’ll design a visual piece combining some of the images I post that I think best summarize that day’s activity on tumblr. This piece is to be created using ready made techniques present in popular image editing software (e.g.:photoshop), for these methods are a nice match to the nature of the image source.

Prepared Desktop: Plugin BeachBall Success Jon Satrom TM2K12

Performed at transmediale tm2k+12 in/compatible

2012.01.31

"the in/compatible concern of year's transmediale was also at the center of a highly impressive performance of jon.satrom on the opening night in the large auditorium: starting with a login problem on the laptop kristoffer gansing was using, the chicago artist had to install a plugin, resulting in a rhythmically choreographed download window.

the system requests, rejections, and installation file locations grew into a comprehensive audio-visual performance. a performance that began with the most commonplace everyday compatibility issues, suddenly the aesthetic exceeded mere clicks, opening and closing converted the entire area of the desktop in a syncopated rhythm game of processes and terrifying transformations."

jon.satrom succeeded in capturing an audience of thousands of people through the projection of a desktop--some were carried away by shouting cheers. a real surprise."

'Street Ghosts' Paolo Cirio

Google Street View made Street Art and Public Concern

"A spectre is haunting Google's private collection of misappropriated, digitized bodies – the spectre of Street Ghosts. Posters of people captured by Google's Street View cameras are printed in colour on thin paper, cut along the outline, and rematerialized [via wheatpaste] to the buildings in front of which they were photographed. By simply existing in the city and investing it with social meaning, a nonconsenting public unintentionally provides value for the Street View cameras to capture. All that is solid melts into gluttonous data. Google sells ads alongside this amassment of vestigial bodies, then resells the information collected to the same advertisers, making billions that aren't even taxed. Street Ghosts intervenes by exploring boundaries of ownership and exposure, confronting the public with data they didn't even know they were alienating. "I ain't afriad of no biopolitical arrogation of the aesthetic and political value of the social labour we perform by constituting the public."

メトロノーム同期 (32個)

32 out of sync metronomes end up synchronizing.

This occurs because the table on which the metronomes are placed upon is moving in time with the average frequency of oscillation of the metronomes. As time passes, and the metronomes begin to slow due to dampening, the swaying of the surface, transfers its energy back to the metronomes (which is why they begin to sway with more force after a while) at a natural frequency equal to that of the sway of the table and the average frequency of oscillation of the metronomes prior to the sync.

Did you ever cry in front of your computer?
If you do, share your tears.

Computers became the witness/spectators of our lives. We eat in front of them and we fall asleep next to them. We talk through them, we dance, we laugh and we masturbate in front of them. But we also cry in front of them.
In a time where showing genitals on the internet is not shocking anymore, tears are a new form of pornography.
