Idling bylaw, fee hikes ring in new year - Edmonton - CBC News

Idling bylaw, fee hikes ring in new year - Edmonton - CBC News | News & media responsibility | Scoop.it
Starting Jan. 1, it will be against the law for vehicles to idle unnecessarily outside city schools and hospitals. As well, Edmontonians will be paying a bit more for some city attractions.
Thomas Harrison's insight:

This is a perfect example of the media being responsible for something positive. The media announcing this law will remove ignorance of the law and allow people to protest or comply.

Thank men for women’s lib - The Spectator

Thank men for women’s lib - The Spectator | News & media responsibility | Scoop.it
RT @FreyaPotter: the ultimate mansplain. can't wait for his piece on white people deserving all the credit for the civil rights movement http://t.co/3tJD77JB
Thomas Harrison's insight:

I agree with this article entirely. It is wrong that the efforts of people were omitted and even wronger that they were demonized. This is mainly due to incompetant wastes that run and work foir the media. The far reaching effects of the media has created stereotypes that are harmful. Prejudice has become a pendulum first blacks and women, now whites and men. People need to stop making up for and getting even with others and just drop this all. But they can't and won't because the media loves it and we all know how the world runs money, money, money.

'Journal News' hires armed security guards

'Journal News' hires armed security guards | News & media responsibility | Scoop.it
The Journal News of West Nyack, N.Y., has hired armed security guards to defend its offices after receiving a torrent of phone calls and emails responding to the paper's publication of the names and addresses of area residents with pistol permits.
Thomas Harrison's insight:

I think that Journal news made a mistake and now they are taking responsibility. They posted a map of licensed pistol owners which is not wrong, in fact its beneficial. They screwed up by posting this so recent to the school shootings. They probably intended to use the shootings as a rallying cry but this was stupid. By doing this so close to the shooting gun advocatesa are likely going to blow up and retaliate causing more conflict during what should be a time of rest.

No Time To Rest - Arms Rights are Civil Rights

No Time To Rest - Arms Rights are Civil Rights | News & media responsibility | Scoop.it
Now is no time to engage in the luxury of cooling off or to take the tranquilizing drug of reasonable disarmament. Now is no time to answer misguided cries to justify any arms in common use for self-defense...
Thomas Harrison's insight:

This case is different from the previous one. Instead of badgering people for news being th issue, This time it is ignorance and insensitivity. The owners of the website have a moral responsibility to avoid what they just did. They are spouting ignorance at a time where people are grieving over lost families from the recent shooting. I said moral because there are not enough web related laws to prosecute the website's owners.

Civil rights activist investigating Hearne Police shooting

Dr. R. L.
Thomas Harrison's insight:

This can be a double edged sword. On one hand the media coverage may help the investigation through publicity but that very effect ruins any stealth options in the invesstigation. The media is responsible for this outcome be it good or bad.

Green Day Have Good News For Fans! | PerezHilton.com

Green Day Have Good News For Fans! | PerezHilton.com | News & media responsibility | Scoop.it
Green Day's Billie Joe Armstrong says he is doing better after rehab and almost ready to tour.
Thomas Harrison's insight:

This is another situation in which the media should be held accountable. This is not newsworthy, in fact its a violation of civil rights. Reporters cower behind the he/she is a celebrity and should expect this excuse but its not valid. Its badgering a person who is trying to earn a living and its not right. Thisa also hurts other people who might've been helped by having their story out there but instead was replaced by this garbage.

Let's All Take Responsibility for a Better Internet in 2013
Huffington Post
As I'm sure you noticed, no one "owns" the Internet.
Thomas Harrison's insight:

With news media starting to infiltrate our technology this becomes much more relevant as time passes. Websites should be held accountable if their content is nothing but hate topics and uninformed babbling. Users on these websites should also be held to the same standards.

Thomas Harrison's insight:

I know people say its their right to know what goes on but isn't that a litlle insensitive to the involved parties? Imagine the pain the families must feel, now imagine it starting fresh over and over. That is the results of the so called reporters that continuosly badger these people.
