School Security: School & Police Partnerships – 2/15

On Friday, Feb. 15 at 11 a.m., NJSBA’s online radio program, Conversations on New Jersey Education, will address the issue of emergency communications. Four New Jersey schools were named by the U.S. Department of Education as the first of 78 schools in the nation to receive the designation of a “Green Ribbon School.”

School Breakfasts, Technology  Featured in School Leader Magazine | New Jersey Education | Scoop.it

New Jersey is one of the lowest-ranked states in the nation in the percentage of low-income students receiving school breakfasts, according to Advocates for Children of New Jersey (ACNJ). Many of those children come to school hungry and are unable to concentrate on their schoolwork. ACNJ is part of a consortium which also includes the New Jersey Department of Agriculture and the New Jersey School Boards Association that is trying to increase participation in the federally funded program. In the current issue of School Leader magazine, Douglas H. Fisher, New Jersey’s Secretary of Agriculture, discusses strategies for boosting student participation in the school breakfast program.

The New Jersey Department of Education on April 30 released the final report of its College and Career Readiness Task Force. The report proposes replacing the current high school assessments – the High School Proficiency Assessment (HSPA) and the Alternative High School Assessment (AHSA) – with end-of-course assessments that measure students at each grade level.
