The Pepsi Facebook 'Like' Machine

The Pepsi Facebook 'Like' Machine | New developments in Social Media | Scoop.it
Pepsi wanted to create a new way of sampling. An easy way to engage with consumers and know who is liking and drinking our product at the same time.
Costello's insight:

The Pepsi like machine is one of the greatest marketing tactics that I have seen in a while.  This machine does not operate on money, in fact it does not accept money.  Instead, in order to get a free drink from this machine you must like Pepsi on Facebook.  Even if you do not have a smart phone a touch screen is provided on the machine to sign into Facebook in order to like it.  This is not only genius because it raises awareness for Pepsi but it also allows them to see exactly who is receiving their product.  Pepsi can use this information to determine factors to aid in the promotion and sales of their product in the future.

Costello's insight:

After reading this article I feel as though Lee made some very valid points.  Although I am part of the younger generation who spend the majority of their time on the phone, I absolutely hate when people pointlessly use social media for the most absurd reasons.  Its funny when I read some of these tweets  because these people actually think that anyone gives a crap about every pointless thing that goes on in their life.  Social media has given most of these people the idea that they are celebrities.  Also I couldn't agree more about the inappropriate times that people decide to tweet.  You would think in a world so publicized that some people would want to keep some things private but that's not the case.  Stop sharing all your feelings via social media and solve your problems/show your feelings in a way that actually reflects effort and guts.  I don't want to have kids one day that only show their love for me on a social media network, I want it face to face and personal.

Malaysia Airlines Flight 370: Get up to speed on the latest developments

Malaysia Airlines Flight 370: Get up to speed on the latest developments | New developments in Social Media | Scoop.it

As investigators search for Malaysia Airlines Flight 370, big questions remain even after several major developments over the weekend.

Costello's insight:

When I first got wind about a plane going missing my mind immediately got a knot in my stomach.  To think that there could be a slight possibility of 9/11 reoccurring somewhere in this world is devastating.  I also find it unbelievable that a plane could go off every single radar in the world, an aircraft is gigantic and should never be unaccounted for.  When family members are hoping for a hijacking to give them hope that a family member is still alive you know the situation at hand is horrible.  My thoughts and prayers go out to every member of those on the plane and those who have family members on the plane.  No one ever deserves to go through this and its terrible that we still live in a world that events like this are still happening.

Costello's insight:
After reading this article I was shocked to hear kids were taking part in this game. I have never heard of it before but sadly after reading this article I could picture a couple of my friends doing it based on there personalities. I believe the doctor is right saying that Facebook needs to take a stand. By allowing the promotion of a game that has brought forth numerous deaths you are aiding in killing the person. Also when kids see something on Facebook like this they deem it socially acceptable. As a 21year old college student that drinks, I feel they should ban this video because it has 0 positive influence on the world. The question the Facebook management team should ask themselves is " Would you want your children to be subject to this?"
