Neo Soul
Neo soul is a term coined by music industry entrepreneur Kedar Massenburg during the late 1990s to market and describe a style of music that emerged from soul and contemporary R&B.[1] Heavily based in soul music, neo soul is distinguished by a less conventional sound than its contemporary R&B counterpart,[1][2] with incorporated elements ranging from jazz, funk, and hip hop to pop, fusion, and African music. Developed in the United States and United Kingdom during the 1980s and early 1990s as a soul "revival" movement,[2][3] neo soul emerged into the mainstream with the commercial and critical breakthroughs of several neo soul artists during the 1990s, as it was marketed as an alternative to the producer-driven, digitally-approached R&B of the time.[4] Since its initial mainstream popularity and impact on the sound of contemporary R&B, it has been expanded and diversified musically through the works of both American and international artists.[5] According to Mark Anthony Neal, "neo-soul and its various incarnations has helped to redefine the boundaries and contours of black pop".

YouTube - Lucy Pearl - Dance Tonight (Official Video)

Hip-hop/urban soul supergroup Lucy Pearl was formed in the summer of 1999 as the brainchild of Tony! Toni! Toné multi-instrumentalist and vocalist Raphael Saadiq (formerly known as Raphael Wiggins), who left the band he co-founded with his brother D'Wayne in 1998. Saadiq first contacted DJ Ali Shaheed Muhammad of A Tribe Called Quest, which had disbanded after their 1998 LP The Love Movement, and then ex-En Vogue member Dawn Robinson, who had originally departed that group for a solo career in 1997 but jumped at the chance to work with Saadiq and Muhammad. Relying a great deal on live instrumentation in addition to samples and turntable work (Muhammad even plays bass and guitar), Lucy Pearl issued its self-titled debut album in the spring of 2000.

Neneh Cherry - Buffalo Stance

Buffalo Stance is a song by Neneh Cherry from her album Raw Like Sushi, produced by Tim Simenon (from Bomb The Bass) and Mark Saunders.

An early version of the song appeared as the B-side on the 1986 single "Looking Good Diving" by duo Morgan-McVey, which was made up of Jamie Morgan and Cherry's future husband, Cameron McVey. The song, titled "Looking Good Diving With The Wild Bunch", was sung by Cherry and was produced by Stock Aitken & Waterman.
The title refers to Buffalo, a group of photographers, models, musicians, hair and makeup artists, etc. formed by fashion stylist Ray Petri, of whom Cherry, Morgan and McVey were all members[1]. Thus the meaning is to stand like you are posing for a photo-shoot in a London fashion magazine in the 1980s. The song's name is also a reference to Malcolm McLaren's song "Buffalo Gals", which is sampled in "Buffalo Stance".

Cherry notably performed the song live on Top of the Pops while 8 months pregnant. Is this Neo Soul? I'll let you decide.

Brotha by Angie Stone.

(Verse 1)
He is my King, He is my one
Yes he's my father, Yes he's my son
I can talk to him, cuz he understands
Everything I go through and everything I am
He's my support system, I can't live without him
The best thing since sliced bread,
Is his kiss, his hugs, his lips, his touch
And I just want the whole world to know, about my..

(Chorus)
Black Brotha, I love ya, I will never - try to hurt ya
I want ya, to know that, I'm here for you - forever true
cuz youre my
Black Brotha, strong brotha, there is no - one above ya
I want ya, to know that, I'm here for you - forever true

(Verse 2)
He's misunderstood, some say that he's up to no good around the neighborhood
