NHL Salary Cap to Increase to $71 M in 2014-15 - Sport Balla

NHL Salary Cap to Increase to $71 M in 2014-15 - Sport Balla | National news | Scoop.it

Teagan McNally's insight:
I found this article interesting because this has been a problem in all national sports for the past few years. The league goes into lockdown because the players and coaches are fighting about money and what the money should go to. I think it is a good thing to have the salary cap increased but it can also turn out bad. The country is already in a lot of debt and I'm not sure if it's necessary to be spending so much money on entertainment.

The First Openly Gay NFL Player Was Supposed To Come Out In June But His ... - Business Insider | National news | Scoop.it
“ The First Openly Gay NFL Player Was Supposed To Come Out In June But His ... Business Insider The player was a free agent. The team he was planning on signing with, as well as its coaches, knew he was gay.”
Via Kelly Riker
Teagan McNally's insight:
This article was interesting to me because I hate how gay people are treated differently. I think that the NFL should do something about this. No matter how good a player is, the team won't sign them just because they think differently and that disgusts me. It takes lots of courage to announce something like that and it doesn't help when teams react like this. I hope that this will change in the near future.

A Single Thread Wrapped Around Thousands of Nails

A Single Thread Wrapped Around Thousands of Nails | National news | Scoop.it
“ Kumi Yamashita, whose mind-blowing shadow artworks have been featured before, uses a single, unbroken thread wrapped around thousands of nails to create stunning portraits of women and men.”
Via Annie Brightstar
Teagan McNally's insight:
I was looking through these pictures and they left me speechless. At first I was confused about what made it so special but the artist wraps the thread closer together to make the darker parts and further apart in the lighters part. Art is so amazing and it's ridiculous what you can make out of nails and a long piece of thread. It inspires me to do more art and try creative things that could turn out amazing.

NBA Releases Memo Warning Players About Bullying - Sport Balla

NBA Releases Memo Warning Players About Bullying - Sport Balla | National news | Scoop.it

Via Myrtle Johnson
Teagan McNally's insight:
This article was interesting to me because this has become an issue in sports lately. In the NFL the rookies are teased and made fun of. A rookie was recently threatened and bullied of the internet which caused him to quit playing professional football. I think it is a good idea to bring this problem to all sports and not just football. All athletes should be aware of the issue and there should be bigger consequences.

Mentor-Based Learning: Becoming A Mentor In Your Own Classroom

Mentor-Based Learning: Becoming A Mentor In Your Own Classroom | National news | Scoop.it
“ Mentor-Based Learning: Becoming A Mentor In Your Own Classroom (What is mentor-based learning, and how does it work?”
Via Lisa W W
Teagan McNally's insight:
I liked this article because I can relate to it. I am a mentor for a 2nd grader and this article was something that I know a lot about. I think hat having a mentor is a great thing for a little kid because it gives me someone to look up to. I think they enjoy being with someone older and showing them what they are learning and teaching in the classroom. It gives them a time to be mature and act like they are older. We teach them the 7 habits which is something they might not have learned of it wasn't for the mentors.

10 Things Mentally Strong CrossFitters Don't Do

10 Things Mentally Strong CrossFitters Don't Do | National news | Scoop.it
“ A former colleague of mine shared an article this morning on Facebook that I found particularly interesting.”
Via Luis Valdes
Teagan McNally's insight:
This article really speaks to me because I have caught myself doing at least one of those. Cross fit is extremely difficult physically but you never think of it being a mental challenge. Your mindset is one of the most important aspects in succeeding whether in business or in a sport. If you do not have motivation to keep trying after you fail, you will never get anywhere. This article was very meaningful for me and I will use it next time I face an obstacle.

Teagan McNally's insight:
This article stood out to me because I find it fascinating that people are discovering so many new species every day. The creatures that we are finding are unbelievable and so interesting. It is bizarre how animals like this are being found by people everyday. The looks of some of these animals are ridiculous and could have been a "lake monster."

Minn. Politicians Criticize Redskins' Name

Minn. Politicians Criticize Redskins' Name | National news | Scoop.it
“ Minnesota's governor and the mayor of Minneapolis both say the Washington Redskins should change the team's name.”
Via Josh Marks
Teagan McNally's insight:
This article was interesting to me because I love football and this is something I am familiar with. The Washington redskins name has become and big deal in the NFL and people are not happy with the name. It would be a huge commotion if the Washington redskins changed there name. There would be many people that are happy and many people are sad. I think that they should alter the name so it is similar but not as offensive to African Americans.
