... it seems to me that asking people what they love about teaching is a very important question. So, here are my Top Ten Reasons Why I Love Teaching Online. I’ll do the Top-Ten list backwards, Letterman-style. Meanwhile, if you are curious about the specific classes I teach, I’ve provided that background information at the bottom of the post."

I agree!! I first got into online teaching really tentatively about 2 years ago and now I love it. My physical classroom is so limited in comparison. My favorite thing is how I can give each student personal attention without ignoring the rest of the students.

Many good insights here... a positive attitude about online teaching, instead of a "less than" approach.

During your lifetime you have probably experienced inspirational educators, or witnessed inspiring lectures. But, what about you? Are you such an educator? If not, why not? In this talk, I [Zaid Alsagoff] explored some of the ingredients top educators in the 21st century have, and how we can learn from them to reinvent ourselves to reach our true potential as an educator. The Piagetian and Montessori idea of presenting children with a variety of educational toys and games suitable for their age and helping them to assimilate new learning is basically simple.  This is just the beginning..........

The NMC Horizon Report  is a collaborative research effort between the NMC, the Consortium of School Networking (CoSN), and the International Society for Technology in Education (ISTE). This edition of the NMC Horizon Report series discusses the top emerging technologies, trends, and challenges that the advisory board believes will have a major impact on teaching, learning, and creative inquiry in pre-college education over the next five years. The  Report identifies mobile devices & apps and tablet computing as technologies expected to enter mainstream use in the first horizon of one year or less. Game-based learning and personal learning environments are seen in the second horizon of two to three years; and augmented reality and natural user interfaces emerged in the third horizon of four to five years. The research and analysis contained in the report will help inform K-12 educators' technology strategies over the next five years.

Real-time blended learning: 5 Creative Ways To Use Skype In The Classroom

Real-time blended learning: 5 Creative Ways To Use Skype In The Classroom | My Personal Learning Network | Scoop.it
Creative Ways To Use Skype In The Classroom

The answer: in more ways than you could imagine. While Skype was not designed as an educational tool, it’s quickly becoming one as teachers discover the many ways it enriches their lessons and the lives of their students. Even something as simple as hosting a guest speaker through a video call can add excitement to a lesson.

As with any tech tool, it can seem daunting to introduce this into your classroom at first. If you don’t know where to start, try one of these five creative ideas.

Microsoft recently showcased a new Skype feature that allows for real-time, two-way, voice translation! This feature will make the Skype Cultural Exchange even more extensible and will allow those who use Skype for non-native language acquisition to have in-depth conversations, in their own languages, about their progress and issues in their learning.

The Teacher's Guide To Badges In Education | Edudemic

The Teacher's Guide To Badges In Education | Edudemic | My Personal Learning Network | Scoop.it
Unfortunately, some students are not motivated by grades. Yes, this includes your brightest kids. Some kids could get an A on any test you give them, so they do not see the need for homework. Why do an hour of work every night when they know they are going to get an A on the test? Now you have a student who gets Fs on all his homework and As on all his tests. It turns into a C average, and he doesn’t care. How do you motivate him to do more or do better? The old-fashioned way – you give him a badge.

The Padagogy Wheel ... it's a Bloomin' Better Way to Teach

The Padagogy Wheel ... it's a Bloomin' Better Way to Teach | My Personal Learning Network | Scoop.it

" Dr Ian Green from the School of Education here at Adelaide and I [Allan Carrington] have used Padagogy 101 (introduction to iPad in HE) and Padagogy 201 (more advanced use for L&T) to train over 600 faculty from universities in Australia. During my research I saw lots of great work done by others using Bloom’s Taxonomy including the Revised Taxonomy which has now become the Bloom’s Digital Taxonomy. However when I discovered the excellent pioneer work done by Kathy Schrock with “Bloomin’ Apps” I got the idea for the Padagogy Wheel. Dare I say it but it is the next version for mobile learning of the ongoing importance of Bloom’s Taxonomy. Bloom’s is still fundamental to good teaching and learning."
