Music for a London Life

Music for a London Life | Music for a London Life | Scoop.it

Music for this London Life will feature absolutely anything that appeals!

Music that features London ..music that played in London ..that's played in London ..music by those that live in London ..lived in London ..were born here ..visited here ..died here ... and music that has nothing whatsoever to do with London ..it simply makes my London Life happy!

Enjoy the mix!

MFLL Tuesday Music:  Sturgill Simpson - "Breakers Roar"

"Breakers Roar" off Sturgill's new album - A Sailor's Guide To Earth // Available Now Download Now - http://smarturl.it/DownloadSturgill Stream Now
Ursula O'Reilly Traynor's insight:
"Wasn't that separation from your son the experience that led to the concept for A Sailor's Guide to Earth?

The separation allowed me to see what I really wanted. I wanted to speak to my son. I used the sea as metaphor. The record is a love letter to my boy and my wife for having saved me from a life of despair."

From the Rolling Stone interview with Sturgill Simpson

Kathryn Williams - Monday Morning

'Monday Morning' is a track taken from Kathryn Williams'  album 'Crown Electric', out now! Order the 12 vinyl here: http://bit.ly/CrownElectricOLIstor

Ursula O'Reilly Traynor's insight:
MFLL has long been a follower of Daylight Music Saturday afternoon sessions (@Daylight_Music) in the wonderful Union  Chapel. They are Pay What You Can  entry and  the curation under the assured direction of Ben Eshmade (@poplarpenguin) ensures an exciting, eclectic often experimental , mix of top performers, both well-established and emerging , across a wide musical spectrum..

It's a great place to discover 'new' musicians whilst sinking your teeth into delicious homemade cake from Margins, the UC homeless charity kitchen, We have been going for years and cannot recommend it highly enough. Superb relaxed family-friendly way to kickstart your weekend  with the feel-good factor of supporting fine musicians ( buy the merch!) and the homeless (did we mention the cakes?). Come along, if you like warn fuzzy feelings with your uplifting music in a gobsmackingly gorgeous giant of a church. You will walk out floating  on the Islington air. Have a listen to singer songwriter Kathryn Williams , who captured our hearts a few weeks back with her gently presented wry humour - tongue in cheek - marvellousness,

MFLL Video Of The Day: Kirsty Merryn | Forfarshire (ft. Steve Knightley)

From Kirsty Merryn's debut album She & I, released 9 November 2017. Forfarshire tells the story of Grace Darling, who, together with her father William,
Ursula O'Reilly Traynor's insight:
Wonderful to hear Kirsty Meyrn at the launch of her debut album  last night at Union Chapel Islington. Opening for the Show of Hands Cathedral tour , we heard a mature, pure voice clearly set to make waves. Oh and she's all set too to take on those diehard purists with preconceptions regarding the no-no of no-keyboard-within -folk tradition. Judging by the audience reaction to Kirsty's accomplished integrated playing of said forbidden instrument last night it's an unequivocal "yes!" Soulful folk heading for the heights, happily without dizzy display. A young musician already very comfortable onstage, loving the live vibe. One to watch, for sure and with Steve Knightley as mentor, no better recommendation required.

Tuesday Music: Nomad from Martha Tilston

From the album 'NOMAD' Release date May 2017 Available in shops and online www.marthatilston.co.uk

Ursula O'Reilly Traynor's insight:
24/05/17
MFLL was at the Martha Tilston London gig at Kings Place last week. That voice!  Hypnotic. As a music maker, we will stop just short of saying spell-caster, but once you enter her world, she has you hooked.. What is she? A chameleon, certainly. A shape-shifter, she slips through your fingers as you attempt to define her. A flickering reminder of Joan Baez, when her long hair sits quietly by the sides of her face as she strums her guitar. There's a distinct suggestion of Kate Bush in her prime, when she sits comfortably, compellingly at the piano. At other times, there's a hint of Lisa Hannigan when the hair flows free, enveloping her face as she moves, arms elevated. But such comparisons soon become irrelevant, under the seductive and powerful draw of this singer. Reassuringly grounded, her voice is rich and colourful and commands an impressive vocal range. She's worth seeking out on tour as her live performance will leave you wanting more. Some standout moments include her duet with a viola, a perfectly attuned performance by Luke Yates.  Meanwhile, have a listen to Nomad Blood, from her new album.

Monday Track Of The Day: Ed Dowie - 'May For A Dead Queen'

"Taken from the album The Uncle Sold, released on Lost Map Records 27th January 2017 http://lostmap.com/products/ed-dowie-the-uncle-sold Director: Ed Dowie"

Ursula O'Reilly Traynor's insight:
Heard first at "Organ Afternoon" for Daylight Music,, MFLL is very happy to share this hypnotic oddball of a video from Ed Dowie. Suitably seasonal in a coldly creepy sort of way, I am easily hooked by Dowie's soft delivery of urban strangeness.  From the album The Uncle Sold released in Jan 2017
