Music festivals 'a snapshot' of wider Australian drug culture (Aus)

Music festivals 'a snapshot' of wider Australian drug culture (Aus) | Music Festivals | Scoop.it
A national youth support group believes music festivals are unfairly targeted as drug-taking events because most organisers take their duty of care seriously.

Phillip J Noel's insight:

I'm not sure what's wrong with the world today that they need something to enhance what everybody been enjoying for a long period of time. The industry gets blame because its where it happens most of the time. But drugs wars been goin on for the longest time.

Peety Peterson's curator insight, September 14, 2014 12:29 AM

I find it very unfortunate that music festivals are recognized as a drug infested play ground. Music festivals for many are an escape just for the music and experience alone. The fact that the music festivals are becoming more visually enhanced, makes kids even more excited to try it on drugs. This is ver unfortunate for the people who take their jobs seriously and want to make a fun environment.

The Massive TomorrowWorld Electronic Dance Festival Is Like No ... | Music Festivals | Scoop.it
This wasn't your average music festival. In fact, it was unlike anything we'd ever seen. Instead of food trucks and carts, TomorrowWorld had Michelin chefs making gourmet food. Instead of dirty camping grounds, participants ...

How to Make EDM Festivals Safer for Young Fans – Flavorwire

How to Make EDM Festivals Safer for Young Fans – Flavorwire | Music Festivals | Scoop.it
Drugs are a touchy subject. But last weekend's MDMA-related deaths at Electric Zoo, and the festival's subsequent cancellation, have forced the issue back into the national conversation. And it's about time: the fact that ...

Phillip J Noel's insight:

Its an on going debate of what to do about these younglings. The only thing they can do so far is just put security and drugged sniffing dogs around the area, but atleast they're starting somewhere. History is repeating itself.

This scoop adds a lot of information unlike the other scoops, in that instead of focusing directly on the drugs, it focuses on how to educate and contribute to the keeping of people safe at these festivals. The scoop goes into detail on why the government's anti-drug policies are actually causing an increase of over doses, as well as how people can contribute to educating, and safely causing harm reduction to people at these festivals.

Chris Lara's curator insight, October 12, 2014 2:50 PM

I love this scoop because it doesn't just show the bad sides of EDM festivals and just leave it at that in order to give it a bad image. The article actually shows some solutions and ways to help people from using drugs and enjoy the sound of music sober the way it was intended to be. It is also supported by many famous DJ performers such as Kaskade.
